Cairns Temp Qp

I have Qantas Amex Premium credit card and I am going to get 2 QC passes which expires in 12 months time as a result of the card.

The only flight I have booked with my wife so far on Qantas is domestic CNS - SYD one way in June this year. My other flight end of this year is with AirNZ so cannot use it either.

Is it actually worth using going to Cairns QC a little bit early before the checkin time? What should I expect, apart from what Qantas website have told me? Is it actually that good? I have only been to a lounge once: the old Virgin Blue lounge. So I don't know if it is actually better or not .....

I think you can use a QP pass even if not flying QF. My parents used mine when flying emirates.

edison,

I believe It's worth a visit. I certainly would use it rather than letting the cards expire into oblivion.

The temp QP in CNS is (in my opinion) quite nice and considerably better than sitting outside in the zoo.

Is that actually within the rules? Or the Qantas staff is "merciful"? If so I may even use it on my trip to NZ .......

Was there 2 weeks ago. I actually thought it was the old golden wing lounge! Was quite overcrowded until the sydney flight left and then OK. It seems half the plane can get into the lounge these days but that comment has been discussed in other parts of this forum!

I agree totally. It can get a little crowded but the main part of the terminal can get really crowded. Even if the QP is busy, it'll be 10 times better than sitting outside.

And the free drinks will make things much better. ;)

This IS correct. The temporary QP in CNS domestic is using the old ansett GW lounge area.

The temp lounge is as busy as the permanent one it replaced. It's all you southerners taking our seats. ;)

On the contrary - visit, spend your dollars, but discover the virtues of the coffee shop thingy in the main part of the terminal :D

Actually, it can be reasonably quiet in the cafe near the old QF club and sometimes preferable in that 11.30am-1pm slot when the QF club is very full and the bar is not open - that cafe has beer on tap...;)

I look forward to reviving old memories in the temp QP next Friday.

Should I be a prat and fit my GW tags on my bags as a mark of respect?:p

OK I think I will try to go to the Domestic Cairns one .... My flight from Cairns to Sydney leaves at 17:15 on Queen's birthday. Will the QP busy at that time?

Obviously the QP have Beers and Wines .... What about freshly brewed coffee (my wife wants it)? Any decent food there?

Just try to figure whether to spend more time on the beach or in QP :)

edison,

As a rule QP's have coffee machines which brew a quite passable product. The old QP in CNS certainly had one so I'm guessing that the new QP has ir now though I don't actually recall.

Very impressed with temp QP last Friday - maybe twice the size of the old QP and much larger than the GW lounge previously sited there.
Its probably bigger than TSV QP (my former NQ favorite) and very nicely appointed - shame there's four times the number of people there trying to sit. It seems groups of up to 6 come in maybe from conferences or love-ins, can't find seats so stand in the walkways and cramp the place. Didn't sniff any hot food as the flight left at 4pm.
I'll be back ...

Nothing wrong with the temp Cairns QP; was a little bit full after an hour or so.

The pastries things were very nice. I think I had about 4 of them, coffee machine worked well. I just wish the coffee mugs could be a bit bigger.

Now the rest of the Cairns airport could do with a makeover.
