Buying tickets overseas

I have a question I'm hoping some ticketing guru will be able to answer.

1) How can you buy tickets overseas and then use them to depart and return Australia? For example, I have found that the return BNE - TPE J class on CX is $5400AUD in Aus. and $3600AUD if bought in Taipai (once converted).

2) If you cant buy o/s and then use here, can you buy a rtn ticket from TPE - BNE, use the return leg from BNE - TPE and then cash in the TPE - BNE leg (and vv)?

These tickets are full J class unrestricted fares.

Or is there some other way to do it?

Cheers

It's a small world MetroAir, I used to be a lifesaver at Coolum Beach SLSC (back in the 80's).

One option would be to either buy or get an award economy ticket BNE/TPE return as well as the TPE/BNE J ticket (to do that, you need to find a TPE-based TA to assist you). CX's office there should be able to help you...

You fly the outbound sector on the first ticket BNE/TPE in Y; but have the date for the return sector as far out as you like (up to 355 days). Then use the first coupon of the TPE/BNE in J and similarly push out the return date.

Then, next time you fly to TPE, use the second coupon of the J ticket (bringing forward the date) and similarly bring forward the return date of the Y ticket.

In other words:

Sector 1: BNE/TPE Y (Ticket 1)
Sector 2: TPE/BNE J (Ticket 2)
Sector 3: BNE/TPE J (Ticket 2)
Sector 4: TPE/BNE Y (Ticket 1)

This is known as "nesting" tickets.

I've done this a number of times between Australia and Singapore, particularly using BA WT+ and J specials that come up. I'm lucky to have a friend who works in QF SIN Reservations so she does the booking and ticketing for me.

Not sure, never done it that way - my gut feeling (with no proof to back it up, so if I'm wrong somebody will let me know) is that you must fly the first coupon in the ticket as the first flight....

Thanks Lindsay.

Coolum has changed a lot since then! If you stand still for too long, someone will build something on you. Still a great part of the world though.

My tickets are OK as they are paid by work, I'm trying to get my wife over with me as least costly as possible.

I have tried going through to CX Taiwan web site but get prices returned in AUD. I have used the other countries web sites previously to get exceptional fares not available here. Last year I managed to get BNE-HNL J return on NZ for $4000 (over $8000 on the Australian web site).

Cheers

Ross

Have you thought of using Zuji.com.au (or similar) to do 2 one way fares? Sometimes these can come out cheaper.

A quick look (I don't know the dates you require) showed pricing around $2900 from Bne-Tpe and $1400US (~$1700) for the trip back on CX in J.

Sure it's $4700 (Plus maybe taxes), but is still cheaper than $5700.

I presume these would be restricted J fares, but you'd have to check.

I use a similar trick when heading to NZ, but havn't tried it for other countries...

Ross, it sure has - drive up to the North Coast regularly and amazed that there is any land left at Coolum...

Hmmm, I wonder whether you could buy them from QF Singapore?? I have a friend there (used her today to get my M-i-L a BA WT+ SIN/LHR/SIN)...if you want to try, send me a private message and I'll give you her name and direct telephone number.

Sorry to resurrect a very old thread but it came up in the search engine.

Trying to wangle a cheap way to Europe via Dubai( bne>dxb>zrh) without being shut up in the back of the bus for ever, I achieved a fairly cheap quote priced in chf for bkk>dxb>zrh.

These are 6 hr legs and tolerable up the back, so another booking (made ex 'Oz) , bne>bkk in Y+ may then make the whole deal more pleasant and quite cost effective.

Now I can probably have someone buy this for me in my name in Suisse but I was wondering what issues there are with overseas ticketing done like this.

Should not be too much of a hassle but from my understanding any bookings made in Thailand, although I have never used the Swiss Air website, need to have credit card sighted before ticketing. I have been using a travel agent in Bangkok and faxing them a copy of my credit card with authorisation form before they can issue the e-ticket.
