Received the following email this morning (actually spotted the Ad in the AFR first). Try as I might, I can't find any fares MEL-LHR-MEL, all pricing out at $15K+ for 2.

Does anyone know what Booking Class these post to so that I can try and track some down via EF?

Online version of the email.

Regards,

BD
as

They'll most likely be I fares.

Thanks MH_fan, but no-go on that.

I can see:

Flight Stops Depart Arrive Aircraft Available Classes
QF 9 1 MEL 16/09/13 3:25 PM LHR17/09/13 5:30 AM 388 I7
QF 10 1 LHR 01/10/13 10:30 PM MEL03/10/13 5:15 AM 388 I7

But trying a dummy booking on QF website still prices out at $15,425 for 2 persons.

I did a dummy booking this morning, had the same problem, checked the T&C's and realised that you need to be departing on certain days of the week for the companion prices to kick in. They want to sell out their premium cabins on unpopular days.

Fair enough...but how do you "find" one of those days?

You need to do a "Flexible with dates" search to see the discount I fares within a two week period. I saw $3,681 outbound for the period around 16/9, but the return dates have only two days in the week of 1/10 that are around $3,985 (for a total of $7,666 ea), with other days inbound as high as $5,761+.

Yikes. I can't believe QF would consider $7k+ a sale fare! A sale fare to London in J would be <$6k for me.

I think that's what threw me, too, MH_fan.

Thanks all for pointing out my naivety!!
