It is his offer, thus his to advise - don't want to steal his thunder, because it is a cracker of an offer. Travel Guru was positively salivating at the thought and was the first to register his interest, within a second. It's on his "wish list"...

The offer, as described to me by bossreggie, had me more than salivating. It would tick an item of my bucket list, one I thought would never actually occur!

Well, he is online, but involved in another thread at the moment (answering an excellent set of questions from NM), or possibly typing up an answer...

In that case, 98% count me in. If you'll (as in Bossreggie) have me....

Ok. So last night we discussed the possibility of a bossreggie lunch in AKL.

As a lot of you know, I regularly travel to AKL for lunch. I thought we could have a bite to eat at my favourite restaurant there. (Euro) The owner is the Judge on the Shabangalise (New Zealand) version of Masterchef and I assure you he is very talented.

I can arrange for a special menu with matching wines etc.

I had a bit of an idea...... Some may even call it a spot of inspiration. (Quite likely inspired by double Laphroaigs)

Option 1)

So I thought if there was enough interest, maybe we could fly over in a G550 rather than a 73H

My thoughts were, I would expect those wanting to come on the G550 to pay the usual amount for a QF J ticket and I would tip in the rest! (The one we normally use seats 8, but can be configured for up to 16) This option would be leaving from Essendon Airport Only.

Option 2)

Make your own way to AKL and meet up for a meal.

The restaurant would be around $200 - $400 per pax depending on how many courses. I would suggest a 7 course degustation menu and it will include ALL beverages. This would be capped at an agreed amount and I would pay for anything over and above this.

This would be open to any member of AFF however if there were more members interested than seats available, then I would consult Admin and Mods privately to determine who would be invited.

So there we have it.

schwing!

Did you have a thought on potential dates bossreggie, even a rough month/quarter would be a good starting point.

That's a great offer. Thank you.

With option 1 is that a one way or return proposition? I'd guest return, but I have to ask the dumb questions. It also will make a big difference in getting financial approval.

MEL-AKL return is around $2500ish? That's a bit more pocket money than I can spare.

Mark me down as keen for a degustation meet up however.

(With full acknowledgement that we've never met and you've been burned by strangers in the past - so I'd understand if the invite didn't extend to me).

Sounds exciting, though I might struggle to get a leave pass on account of the mounting pressure to finish my thesis.

I'd prefer the "make your own way" option, but that's only because I'd be thinking of cashing in my Amex free DJ flight. Even at QF J Saver prices (which aren't too bad), I'd struggle to stump up that money, and especially now.

Ditto for the lunch itself, though at least the cost range (hopefully not pressing at $400) is slightly more palatable. Might take a leap of faith to draw it out of the "thesis survival fund" ;).

Good on you, bossreggie, for conceiving the idea:!:

Definitely interested, pending timing etc.

However option 1 is too exxy for me so I'm going with option 2. :)

How about a date of Thursday 26 January 2012 to make the flight.

So we have worked out that 8 people on the Gulfstream, what number for lunch would be a good size.

Also to nail down some more details, what would the menu cost, $200 cheap or $400, is there anyway to find out some more details.

Essendon Airport sounds ok, I could add another airport to my list.

Also what about the options of 1 ways, yes I know that adds complexity but I thought I would ask.

Sorry lots of questions but I thought if we are serious about this then we need to nail down some details.
