Snapped up a couple for later this year CDG-HKG.

See here for the sectors with F cabins Cathay Pacific (CX) Fleet - FlyerGuide

I also managed to snap two seats on the exact same route. What I found VERY interesting when called to select seats is that there were only three left (checked online later and it was indeed correct), meaning 50% of the cabin was booked already and CX still released two award seats!

Had no idea CX are so generous with award availability, especially considering that my booking is for April next year!

JAL are part oneworld, like Qantas.
QFF members can use their QFF points to book award flights on all oneworld partners, which include not only JAL, but also AA, CX, QR, MH, BA, UL, FJ and others.
QFF members can also use their QFF points to book award flights on qantas partner airlines like EK and JQ.

You can join JAL Milage Bank (their FF programme) for free. I find their website very convenient for OW and JL partners award seats search.

Amaroo and boomy, do you book your CX J&F via QFF or via Asia Miles.
I've had success booking via QFF, but am building up points in Westpac and Citi that can be transferred direct to Cathay Asia Miles. I'm wondering if there is a difference in terms of availability and taxes. I plan to look into that on the weekend for the return flights for our Europe trip in 2016. Cheers, mark

Re: First class Award with QF

I have been looking at award flights to the USA daily for a friend (and we booked a J award for him yesterday for 1 July 2016). I was looking at DFW and Lax not JFK, but generally I found Tues, Wed, Thurs were good for awards and Fri not too bad, Sat, Sun, Mon were the worst. If you have a look at the calendar on the Qantas site, the last day you can book on is the day the awards are released. So if you looked today you would see 2 July 2016 is bookable and the later dates are greyed out. The awards definitely pop up at 10am :) I would think May/June is probably too late for a Qantas F award (particularly 2), but you could possibly get J or use some of the other carriers as suggested,

While this is highjacking a QFF thread, should you actually have AA points AA is much cheaper way of booking F from SYD to NRT than QF.

Also note, ausbt has confirmed with JAL that depite them having this loaded they have yet to confirm they will actually be running this aircraft until August. Hasnt stoped me booking (through AA) but you may want a back up plan.

We were tracking release of QF10 in anticipation of booking, with seats being released on schedule every day, until the week we wanted to book. Nada for days. So we grabbed a less desirable day. Then a few days later they released a week of seats in one go

What a pain - I thought I had a system here :). This is the second time I have tried to book an award flight - did it once before to South Africa for Miss FM and her partner. It has reinforced for me why I pay for overseas and use points domestically .....

I use QFF - F/J combo CDG-HKG-BNE = 199,000p + €241pp ... availability for a random month.

Re: First class Award with QF

A touch off topic but I really wish that QF would not make the colours for F and J on their redemption chart so similar !
They should make one of them bright green or something
Totally agree with you! When I was booking with my friend yesterday and we were looking at some date options, that was the first thing he said - maybe they think people don't have colour monitors :).

Re: First class Award with QF

Hi

I still do not get it

How do you book from QF website a CX or other OW airline ?

You use the same process you do for QF - it iwll show you option available when you select a day on various flight/partner combinations.

As others have said though some partner airlines (eg: JL) do not show up online so you must call QFF.

Has anyone done F on BA 15/16 77W? Mediocre hard product and high Yq have put me off in the past but as you say Boomy availability seems better than most competitors (probably for those reasons).

I have although 2 years ago when the F seats were quite new. I found them pretty good (same as CX J seats I understand but seemed more comfortable). Quirky double false window was interesting. Service certainly wasn't overly attentive but still pretty good. For my points if faced with choice between CX J or BA F award seats other than pyjamas being offered and the Concorde room ex LHR for BA the difference is marginal and I would save the points and go with CX.
