Booking First class Award flights with QF

Re: First class Award with QF

it doesnt matter what airline as long we can use the awards ticket

That part could be a major issue if searching in F. Quite often only one award seat issued at 355 days and they tend to get snapped up. Might be better to go one F one J.

Re: First class Award with QF

Booking JAL with QF points is a bit rip-off, checked last year SYD-NRT F and IIRC it was 136K points plus $300-400 taxes. Not a good value IMO.

Should be 114,000 points. I would consider that reasonable value for the SYD-NRT daytime flight.

If QF had F on the route it would only be 6,000 points cheaper, so I don't think we're really in ripoff territory.

Re: First class Award with QF

what is F and J class

F = First Class
J = Business Class

And for completeness,

PE = Premium Economy (or some people say W class when referring to QF awards)
Y = Economy

114K sounds better (maybe my quote included domestic connection) but the taxes are still too high. Other programmes don't charge extra points for partner bookings and charge less taxes so QF's deal is still not good enough. Last year I end up booking with USDM which obviously is not an option anymore but worth checking AA for this route.

There is an abbreviations thread that is very interesting and informative. Once you have mastered the single letter abbreviations and acronyms you then enter double, triple territory. in all there are a few hundreds. The ones you learnt today are the easiest.

Re: First class Award with QF

I have previously managed to land 2 x F award seats NRT-LHR return with BA 2008. On a separate trip 2013 - I jagged 4 x F awards ex LHR-BKK on the way home, kids were most impressed :mrgreen:

Re: First class Award with QF

Well to start, there aren't many destinations left that has QF F flights in the first place...

I tend to make bookings on EK these days with my QF miles when looking for F seats.

Yeah F on Ek to/(preferably) from NZ is an easy option for anyone who wants to sample the F product using Qf miles.

Earlier this week I saw 7(!!) award seats available on BA F using JAL search engine. Not sure how many seats were really available as I didn't actually call to book any but that was by far the best award availability I've even seen in F on any airline.

Re: First class Award with QF

My experience:

USA-SYD

Seats are released at day 35_ (352, 353?). You MIGHT see a seat or two added later. Might. Like closer to departure.

LAX-SYD seats in First (P inventory) seem to be only ONE seat, and this is not every flight. 2-3-4 flights a week.

DFW-SYD seats release in pairs. Also not every flight, a few a week.

If you didnt book the week they release, you will likely not see them

Which route was that on boomy ?

Has anyone done F on BA 15/16 77W? Mediocre hard product and high Yq have put me off in the past but as you say Boomy availability seems better than most competitors (probably for those reasons).

352 is day 352 (so around late december) ?

There is an iPhone App called 'day hop'

Enter 353 and it will tell you what date is 353 days from today.

To your question every night Qantas effectively 'uncovers; the schedule for the new day 353 days in the future.

I began tracking seat releases the month before my 'target'...it depressed me. Wound up spending 600k Avios for 2 round trips US-SYD-US. (which cost me 400k Amex MR points)
