Biggest Travel Regret?

Hi,
For those missing the Concorde there is one at Brooklands Museum near Heathrow. They do a Concorde experience tour where you can pretend to do Mach 2 at 50,000ft. Worth a trip. You can also sign up to have a session in the Concorde flight simulator, another one for my buckey list.
Other regrets include not having managed to get to the top of the Eiffel Tower, frozen the first time and not enough time the second, and not getting up early to get the Durango to Silverton train in Colorado.
Still time get to these though.

regrets - having altitute sickness, and not being able to complete the 4 day hike to Machu Picchu in 2010
- along with most on this thread - not getting the opportunity to be on the Concorde

Non regrets - The Great Wall of China in 1986, arriving at Badaling to find that we could ride donkeys up to the wall instead of climbing the 1000 icy steps
- the surprises I arrange for hubby/family whenever we travel, so at some point in the trip something unexpected for them happens. (I have been known to take them to a completly different country than the one they think they are going too)

Thankfull to have the opportunity to travel just about anywhere in the world we would like to go.

Just read thru the thread & added a couple of things to my to do list(Which I have renamed "in 15 years you'll forget that you paid $50 to ride on the Gondola, but you'll remember that you rode on the Gondola".) Thanks poster.

It has gone up a bit.

It's about 6oEuros ISTR now.

I still do t every time I am in Venice.

I also ALWAYS use the private water taxi. About 70Euros each way, to and from my hotel. It sure beats sitting with a bunch of people and stopping 10 times.

I have a saying... Feel free to use it.

"Don't have Amourguard at your funeral".

I guess I don't regret not taking the Concorde as I never had the chance to fly it - it was never a choice I could have made so I can't regret not choosing to have done it. If I was going to think of things I regret not doing ever the list would be pretty long starting with Dinosaurs...

If you are interested in dinosaurs you can start with visiting the Western Australian Museum in Perth WA, Australia. Huge real dinosaur skeletons can be found there. Very interesting. I took my parents there once. My dad's baffling reaction was: "So they did really exist". While you are there have a look at the museum's interesting collection of insects. "Walking sticks", "Praying mantises", "Dragon flies", eg. From small. To medium. To large. The large once are huge, and probably many times bigger than the once you may have come across. Very interesting. There are off course many other interesting things to look at.

2. Seeing Uluru from 40 000 feet. It's just cool.

Scored this on QF9 a couple of weeks ago - it was cool!

My biggest regret is flying all the way to New York in the summer of 2000, standing at the foot of the WTC towers and declining a trip to the top. "It's drizzling and I can just look at someone else's photos" I said at the time.

On the bright side I did get to sit in the General Assembly Hall of the UN for an address by Richard Holbrook in the same trip.

Can't remember the altitude, but it was on a Q Link flight Asp - Per, (717) was a great sight, but a little hazy, I was even on the right (left) side of the plane!

Thanks Bossreggie

I would imagine the cost has gone up, but may be the Euro will go down, so all will be equal! ;-)
You have still changed the tile of my To Do (Bucket?) List. I hesitate to call it a Bucket List, might be tempting fate too much!

I can Guarantee there will be no Armourguard at my funeral.

That reminds me of another one. Mr Katie and I had dinner at Windows on the World in July 99. I refused to take any photos, or even have a photo taken of us, due to how fancy the restaurant was.

Regrets:

1- Not paying surcharge for exit rows, or extended seats in whY on VS.

2- Using points to claim whY tickets, instead of paying cash for whY then upgrade to J.

Oh well, lessons learnt!

First ever flight on 3K today (and first ever Y flight on 3K or JQ). I hope this does not become my biggest travel regret.

Fare was less than half of what CX wanted, even after paying extra for an exit row seat and for the starter plus pack. Get 4x the FF points over CX as well.

Wandering home from a bar in Jasper & we were concentrating on avoiding the elk & trying to keep warm-didn't look up enough & missed seeing the Northern Lights. BUT next night staff from the pub came & got us when the show started-lasted ages & the previous night stuff up was soon forgotten

Regret - Not going to "Swinging London" in the 1960's but I had just started work and had no money for the journey.
Non-regret - Taking my 2 boys around Australia on 30000 QFF points each which I earned during my previous job and before the QF rules were changed in 2001.

I can't think of any really strong regrets. Sure there are some things I would have liked to have seen or done while I was in a particular place. Guess not seeing the World Trade Centre in New York might be one. Was always "gunna" go whenever I was there, but somehow never did.

Yes, just thought of a regret - going on the Space Mountain ride at Disneyland many years ago. I hate roller coasters and you would never get me on one. I weakened this day because so many people rave about it. I was petrified and Disney staff had to help me out of the car at the end. More than 20 years later I still have nightmares about it.

But as for non-regrets, well I did fly on Concorde. Flew from New York to London. It was amazing. All happened by accident. Friend and I were booked on BA First Class. Arrived at JFK to chaos as a TWA flight to London had been cancelled. BA were moving passengers around to accommodate TWA passengers. At check in, we were offered the option to fly on Concorde. There was never any chance of refusing an offer like that and we got to London 4 hours earlier!

My other non-regret - I missed out on a bed seat on QF1 (BKK-LHR) due to that massive hail storm in Sydney many years ago which damaged some QF planes. They only had an old 747 with seats. To make up for my disappointment at using up my QF points for this, the FSD arranged for me to sit in the coughpit for the descent and landing into Heathrow. That was one of my most amazing travel experiences I think.

I blame Disneyland for my dislike of roller coasters as well. Being forced (well not realising) onto Big Thunder Mountain at 6 is my excuse. I went on Space Mountain at Hong Kong Disneyland last month and while I wasn't quite having to be helped out by the staff at the end, if you look at the photo at the end my head is in an odd position because halfway through I became convinced I was too tall for the ride and I was going to hit something and it get taken off if I didn't keep it down! I didn't particularly like the idea of being decapitated on holidays!

To be fair Elbarto..... I'm not a big fan of being decapitated........ Even around the house!!!

I believe it's pretty hard to shake!!! LOL

When we were kids Mum kept a record of every flight we did for about 10 years, the flight crew use to fill out the details of the flight and crew......I wish I had kept it. I remember FAs and even a few pilots looking to see if they had a previous entry. We often got to sit up front and chat.

I love roller coasters and have a distinct dislike for being decapitated ... anywhere, especially on holidays. So if I am ever decapitated while on a roller coaster during a vacation, I can assure you that heads will roll :p

Well here's a heads up, it wont be a crowning achievement for the operator either.
