Biggest Travel Regret?

Also never went in the Tower of Pisa

I was there last year, but didn't go into/up the tower either. I was happy enough walking around outside and taking photos, and don't feel like I've missed out anything not going up.

I feel like that for the majority of things I see during my travels these days in Europe. I've been to that many cathedrals, castles, museums etc. that unless it holds special interest/significance for me I won't bother going in.

Oh the ABC of travel: Another Bloody Church/Cathedral/Castle/Collection. I largely avoid the Cs and I'm happy!

Leaving packing until the last minute and ending up throwing everything in the suitcase...then not being able to find anything when i got there

Slightly revised this week ... letting DH decide if we should take the QF J 2 for 1 sale for our potential trip together (sans Little Miss) to Seattle in Oct.
Pricing the next day showed that Y+ was now available for the price of J the day earlier. :( :( :(
But I told myself I would be OK with his decision ... there are reasons I'm the travel organiser!!

There's also one in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center (Smithsonian Air and Space Museum) near Washington Dulles Airport. Not to mention a space shuttle and an SR-71

Adding to the list is there not also one at Duxford Air Museum? There was last time I was there (circa 1992.....)

My biggest travel regret was deciding that India were not going to be competitive in the last two tests in India in 2001 and then heading to Rajasthan instead of Chennai and Kolkata. I'd travelled by train for 33 hours in 3rd class to get to Mumbai to see Tendulkar bat, which was incredible, but we still beat them in 3 days. The rest, as they say, is history. Only the Ashes in 2005 would be considered a better series ever in test cricket (by most reasonable observers IMHO). The fact that I sat in crummy hotel rooms watching it anyway only adds to the regret/pain.

I've done a few trips of extended travel with only a rough itinerary (for ticketing purposes), so who knows what I missed by going down path A instead of path B? That's part of the bug......

Traveling by train from Geneva to Rome in 1989 and deciding not to bother taking the time to go via Berlin and have a look at the Berlin wall....

Being too hungover on my last day in San Francisco to go to Alcatraz. It had been planned, but I was young and had the mother of all nights on the squirt. Stupid, stupid, stupid...

Had a similar scenario in San Diego times ago.. Missed a visit to Sea World with friends.. Also a hangover from hell, the after effects of a visit to Tijuana & over indulging in Tequila.. Yes - the one with the worm! Never again

I've got a similar non-regret to share: I got a wee bit 'happy' one evening in Rüdesheim with the ship's crew and almost missed the trip to Heidelberg the next morning (I had to sprint for the bus!). I was sick all day and obviously didn't touch any alcohol for a few days, but I was pleased I made the trip anyway. :p

Being in Toronto and not going with the people I was with to visit Niagara Falls. It was a stinking hot summer and I chose to spend the day lazing by the pool....Huge regret...their pics were amazing, and I hardly doubt I'll end up going to Canada again

I am sure I am not the only one, but I am seeing others regrets and realising how luck and fortunate I have been (Berlin before and after the wall, Tower of Pisa, Sistine Chapel, Alcatraz, flying into and out of Kai Tak, USS Midway etc.).

It's true that life shouldn't be about regrets.

However - my regret - not discovering the skiing in the Dolomites when I was younger.

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

As a sprightly young lad in my 20's I've got a few!

1. Not taking more flights on Ansett. The one flight I took on them was horrible, but I feel like I should have given it a go.
2. Taking more chances to visit 747 coughpits. I did this twice, and while it was awesome, I was very young and can barely remember it. This is a huge regret as the 747s start to vanish.
3. Not signing up for QFF as a kid and making sure my parents travelled constantly on QF!

And for balance, some highlights:

1. After travelling to Europe for the girl, and it all falling apart an incredible FA in J who made me feel a helluva lot better, gave me some awesome drinks and some free therapy.
2. Seeing Uluru from 40 000 feet. It's just cool.
3. Laying across 4 seats and having a good 4 hour sleep on a midnight flight. Sen-f*cking-sational. More rested when I landed than i've been on any flight ever...(until this year when I had a flat bed in a J flight!!!)

Scratch my previous. My new biggest regret is not taking up the offer for the 787 flight to BNE on Saturday. I went to HBA instead.

Biggest travel regrets? Apart from never having had a chance to fly on the Concorde, seems a common regret of many people here! But at least I had some flights into the old HK airport, what a buzz that approach was!

I'll submit my biggest regret as having earned a MASSIVE amount of Ansett points on a Westpac credit card during a few years early in my career when I was in a very high-paid consulting position and doing not just a lot of domestic travel but also lots of expenses and they all went on the card. So the points are piling up, I think to myself "Yeah I should do something with them when I am not so busy, maybe cash them in on some overseas trips with SQ". Then of course seemingly without warning Ansett collapses and my points are frozen and then worthless. Hundreds of thousands of them wiped out overnight.

Sad, however, a very common story!

I wasn't bit by that nasty AN bug. I know many that were and I've decided that the best point - is the one you've already cashed in!

I know people bang on about how poor a classic award is........but, when you're in that F or J seat, the feeling is bloody beautiful.
