I usually fly Qantas, but holding LTG and with WP bedded down for the year, have been a bit more open minded and booked an upcoming flight Sydney to Japan for my family of 5 on Asiana in J.

I have a Velocity account with minimal use and no status, but figure as an Aus based mainly domestic flyer with QF WP, it makes sense to try and maximise Virgin benefits from the Asiana flights.

The best I can see is to credit them to Etihad, and use family pooling which will give circa 100,000 points that can be used at reasonable rates on Virgin.

I can't see any options to gain status on a Virgin partner via the flights. Some Star Alliance carriers such as Egyptair seem to allow family pooling for status miles, which would give Star lounge access, but as a mainly domestic flyer none of the airlines that offer this would provide Virgin lounge access.

Would appreciate it if anyone has any advise or better options than crediting to Etihad.

Does SQ KF allow family pooling though?
Otherwise its a painful way to move points, if no family pooling in SQ.
You and wife earn, then you move 20,000 and wife moves 20,000 and the kids move 20,000 each, all into VFF, at a 0.45% loss of points.
If you love EY, then g with them.
But directly, OZ Asiana to VFF, nope, no luck, they are not in a partnership of any form.
NOTE: SQ KF does have a propensity to decline points, I flew ADL - MEL, with VAd, decided to put in my SQ KF #, got declined, I feel most likely it wasn't a direct code share, just putting points earnings, ...
Then, flew MEL - CHC with (Air)NZ, also put in my SQ KF #, flew in Works Deluxe, got denied/declined again, and also this time not a code share.
Bad taste in the mouth.
But I flew SQ from MEL - WLG, in their own aircraft, in J, with my SQ KF # in the booking, and the points appeared.
My take from this, if its a VFF & SQ code share, they are very happy to add FF points for each other, but if its not a code share, then they would decline willy nilly.
Instead of flying OZ, could you fly SQ SYD - SIN - ICN with SQ and put your SQ KF # (join if you haven't), and once the points have appeared, move the points to VFF.
Sorry about the diatribe.

There's no VA benefits provided by OZ flights. If you credit to SQ you can use KrisFlyer miles to book VA flights, same if you credit to EY (though I think EY does do family pooling).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Can credit to Delta. Delta points never expire, and sometime in the future maybe they will introduce the ability to transfer points from Delta to VA. Or just fly SQ via SIN as suggested above.
