I usually fly Qantas, but holding LTG and with WP bedded down for the year, have been a bit more open minded and booked an upcoming flight Sydney to Japan for my family of 5 on Asiana in J.
I have a Velocity account with minimal use and no status, but figure as an Aus based mainly domestic flyer with QF WP, it makes sense to try and maximise Virgin benefits from the Asiana flights.
The best I can see is to credit them to Etihad, and use family pooling which will give circa 100,000 points that can be used at reasonable rates on Virgin.
I can't see any options to gain status on a Virgin partner via the flights. Some Star Alliance carriers such as Egyptair seem to allow family pooling for status miles, which would give Star lounge access, but as a mainly domestic flyer none of the airlines that offer this would provide Virgin lounge access.
Would appreciate it if anyone has any advise or better options than crediting to Etihad.
