Didn't buy one this week, sadly.
It could have been a bit longer. But I've definitely had slow, longer service on the A330s in J trans-con or trans-Tasman - over 90 minutes with big gaps between courses. This felt nothing like that.

I mentioned 3 hours for starter and main on my 35 recently. 90 mins for three courses would have been ideal!

They can be but they are locked down for takeoff and landing and need to be unlocked before pax can play with them. In my more recent experience when the crew unlocks them they also raise them all throughout the cabin.
Yes. I think they just forgot on my flight. I was in Row A and wanted all the Row F screens up! Crew obliged but it was during the meal service that I asked for it. All went up at the same time.

The little privacy screens between seats (ie, between 2A and 3A by the window) can be raised any time.

I guess being an overnight flight QF36 they get on with it so people can sleep. They'd be absolutely slammed if the meal on a supper flight took 3 hours -- even 4 courses!

Seemed to be maybe 4 of us who didn't sleep / have the bed made up. Everyone else did.

They do on the overnight (F) from HKG. Takes the full 3 hours for dinner - leaving as little as 4 hours for sleeping time. Although to be fair my primary focus on flights is sleep - day or night. Other pax may not have that same goal. (Stll, any airline in F should be able to adapt to individual pax needs, but QF doesn't offer that.)

Madness. perhaps we were lucky. It also felt like there were extra hands in the cabin (not the CSM - she just wandered through saying hello to pax during the meal).

Agree. I've had slooow meal service in F ex-SIN to SYD/MEL. In comparison SQ speed up their service on supper/red-eye flights to maximise sleep time - if you want it can be finished in under an hour from takeoff. On QF you might be lucky to have anything besides the post-departure drink by then.

Now just under a week out from our booked flight, showing F7 A7, so starting to get a little hopeful for 2xF points upgrades (WP request).

The seat map shows that for a couple (if no other bookings get in first), there is choice of 1A+5A, 4K+5K, or 4F+5F.

Advice of the best combination - I am thinking it may be a toss up between 4K+5K or 1A+5A. I know 5A is bassinet, but is 5K also?

Fingers crossed for the points upgrade fairy coming good.

Tough call. Maybe 1A+5A? Definitely avoid 5F, there's a fridge compressor or something immediately behind the seat which can cause noise disturbance.

You won’t be able to select 5A unless you have an infant in the booking.

5A is selectable if using UL MMB, but obviously you risk get booted by someone with an infant, and it sounds like it's not that good a seat anyway.

5A is better than 5K.

You'd be very unlucky to get bumped by a parent/infant flying F.

oh! silver in ours and fine to book. There were only 4A and 5A left on that side, but the other side was pretty much empty. This was to DFW, maybe route dependent then?
Ours is also to DFW, but I assume you are correct that it was due to lack of available seats. We are currently the only seats selected and definitely can't select 5A.

Also was it the old seat selection or the new one?

Old selection. Since the change to the new one the pre-allocation for silvers has gone and the seat map doesn't even show (only allows the selection of a 'preference').

Hmm thats what I thought; I think the new seat selection is a lot tighter.

This no longer appears to be the case.

I have flights on QF 7 and QF 8 in August and have selected 4A and 5A for myself and Mrs Dr Ralph. Every seat currently able to be selected.

For me I'd take anything on the A side of the plane and 5A is my preferred seat.

I used to like 5A until I had a damp seat and a dripping from above ....🙄🙄 Syd to LHR
Sadly this was pre AFF and so I just did a little whinge on the plane and did nothing more

My favourite is always 2A, and if not available then 3A.
worst seat is 5K as there is some type of pump behind the bulkhead which operates at random times and wakes me up every time I am asleep.

still better than any seat in J however
