Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Had the opposite experience last year. Had booked my mother ex Amsterdam ( I think it was) on Eva into Singapore, then SQ to Brisbane. Eva was late in, and she missed the SQ connection. SQ would not rebook, although perhaps it was Eva that should have? Ended up just buying her a new ticket back ex SIN to BNE.

Was it the same ticket? If yes then Eva should've book the new ticket. If separate (which I suspect was the case, as SQ flights to BNE wasn't open last year), then neither airline is responsible.

That's a good point.

Is there a trick to getting SYD as an ANA destination? If I try entering SYD it doesn't accept it as a valid selection.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I've seen SIN-TYO-SYD show up without any selection.

The answer is that whilst the website has improved recently it still has plenty of bugs and that is one of them. There are plenty of other examples where when you do a carrier specific search it doesnt contain the city which the airline flys out of. It is mighty annoying. AFAIK there is no way around it you just have to use the 'Smart search' or 'Star alliance' option which will bring up ANA options(as well as CA, TG, SQ etc).

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

i need to get to SIN in july and can't decide between these 2 routes so would be keen to hear other's thoughts
we are in adl and ADL-SIN direct on SQ is sold out so these are our 2 options
MEL-SIN direct SQ J
SYD-BKK-SIN TG F then SQ J

the missus isn't too keen on the idea of another stop given we already have to make our own way from ADL to either SYD or MEL.

is it worth going for the longer way around to try TG F?

thanks!

Tough call. TG F is better than SQ J. But you're adding hours onto the journey. The transit at BKK isn't so much of an issue - a golf cart will meet you on arrival and take you to transfer security.

If you could snag TG J on the BKK-SIN you'd have the TG F lounge and 30 minute spa treatment, but SQ J beats TG J hands down on that sector.

Has anyone tried to make a screenshot booking since they allowed mixed cabins? Not sure if screenshot bookings are still allowed?

If your missus isn't keen on the extra stop, she is going to be even less impressed with the transfer from domestic to international in SYD, even more so if you can't interline luggage.

This bloke speaks the truth. I think it depends on the SQ aircraft config... if it's the 1-2-1 business I'd be sticking to SQ for sure.

I think in this situation as much as F would be nice, J on SQ will do the job pretty well anyway.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

What date in July? There's 2xJ availability ADL>SIN July 8, 15, 16, 22, 29, 30 , 31

Doesn't matter how you get from ADL to SYD or MEL, you'll have no check-through and no interline. You'll have to pick up your bags, go to the international terminals and check-in for your international flight.

If you are taking the SYD-BKK TG flight in the morning (the one that most likely has the availability and the one that is most able to link up with SQ flights BKK-SIN), the first flight of the day ADL-SYD is barely going to get you there on time to make the TG flight. You'd have about 30 minutes to get off the domestic service, get your bags, high tail it to T1 and then check-in before the cut off. Then you'll not have too much time to get so much as a drink in the lounge before you board. You could overnight in SYD instead.

As MEL_Traveler said, if you can get a TG connector for BKK-SIN, at least you'll have TG F lounge access in BKK for all your troubles and extra cost, which will include a full body massage if you allow at least 60 minutes connecting time.

On the balance of all considered, especially if your other half does not enjoy transfers, I'd probably go for the direct via MEL. SQ may run one A333 service MEL/SIN daily which doesn't have fully flat J seats (same as the older J seat on VA's coast to coast A332 services), but if this doesn't phase you or if your predicted equipment is a B777-300, then that's OK.

The 777-300 has the same seat as the a330 in J

I thought they were the same / getting refurbished?

Doesn't matter, then that makes two equipments to look out for, unless you don't mind it.

Two more questions as a follow up. To cancel a booking - anyone tried emailing rather than calling? Also, the credit card I used to make the booking is no longer in use, can I use a different credit card to get the taxes refunded? Thanks

The 777-300 was refurbished to new f and 'new' regional j in 2009 and will be that way most likely until retirement from the fleet.
