re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

As MEL_Traveler said, if you can get a TG connector for BKK-SIN, at least you'll have TG F lounge access in BKK for all your troubles and extra cost, which will include a full body massage if you allow at least 60 minutes connecting time.

Just a minor clarification... arriving F connecting to J you are only entitled to a 30 minute massage (foot or head and shoulder), but may get lucky and be offered 1 hour.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

I thought you could only use the F lounge dependent on your onward journey. If you fly into Bkk on f but your onward journey is in bus class you only have access to bus class lounge (and no buggy service). Happy to be proven wrong

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Pretty sure we've all tried email rather than calling to cancel. Would save a lot of hassle, but it's no go. :(

If you fly in in F...you get met by the buggy...and if transiting the buggy always drops you at the F lounge...so you get in there. Then the F treatment stops, so no onward buggy rides, 1 hour spa treatment.

This is correct.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

i need to get to SIN in july and can't decide between these 2 routes so would be keen to hear other's thoughts
we are in adl and ADL-SIN direct on SQ is sold out so these are our 2 options
MEL-SIN direct SQ J
SYD-BKK-SIN TG F then SQ J

the missus isn't too keen on the idea of another stop given we already have to make our own way from ADL to either SYD or MEL.

is it worth going for the longer way around to try TG F?

thanks!

Forget everything about the aircraft configs - if your wife doesn't like multiple stops, then go MEL-SIN direct. Happy wife...!

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

What date in July? There's 2xJ availability ADL>SIN July 8, 15, 16, 22, 29, 30 , 31

yeah i saw that thanks. but we have a tight schedule due to work leave and can only fly between the 2 to 5th. such a pity. but i suppose thats the game of miles and points - have to learn to fit the schedule to the availability!

This bloke speaks the truth. I think it depends on the SQ aircraft config... if it's the 1-2-1 business I'd be sticking to SQ for sure.

I think in this situation as much as F would be nice, J on SQ will do the job pretty well anyway.

On the balance of all considered, especially if your other half does not enjoy transfers, I'd probably go for the direct via MEL. SQ may run one A333 service MEL/SIN daily which doesn't have fully flat J seats (same as the older J seat on VA's coast to coast A332 services), but if this doesn't phase you or if your predicted equipment is a B777-300, then that's OK.

The 777-300 has the same seat as the a330 in J

thanks for everyone's thoughts and help - the missus has just broken my heart - "let's just fly economy..."

yeah i just tried that yesterday and got told to call in instead. i remember someone writing here some time ago that they somehow managed to email customer service to arrange a call-back
i've been meaning to cancel 2 tickets for ages now but the thought of going through the same experience as last time when it took me HOURS to sort it out has put me off

If you factor in the cost of the original points ($33 per 1000) + the cost of transferring them ($15 per 1000) that makes $48 per 1000. Double your points makes it $48 per 2000 or $24 per 1000.

I'm excluding taxes for simplicity.

Effectively it's (33-24)/33 or 9/33 = just over 27% saving.

Not the greatest deal.

Lol! That's like my wife! Every time she used wrong credit card I always try to remind her which one to use under what circumstances, then she just goes, "I'll just pay cash!"

hang on, if you've already bought the points previously you exclude them from the share costs. The only cost is the transfer cost which you said is $15 per 1000. In doing this you are awarded an extra 1000 points so you are buying points at 1.5 cpp. Not bad but they were as low as 1.32 cpp last year during the 150% bonus.

However that implies that points were purchased at full price.

Yes, that's true. But that's their value/cost at this point in time.

Not sure I agree. You need to have the points to transfer the points. So the total cost of each point is what you paid to get them in the first place + what it costs to transfer them.

If I bought an orange for a dollar, and then spent 50 cents posting it to you, the total cost of your orange is $1.50. By your reasoning the orange only cost 50 cents.

re: Avianca "Lifemiles" - Questions and Discussion

Oh god here we go again .... every time the transfer promo is out there is confusion over the costs. If you purchase the FIRST 1000 at usd 33 every subsequent 1000 is usd 15. You just keep transferring between the accounts. Its 15/1000 ...simple (excluding the first 1000 if you need to buy that to get the ball rolling).

Yes but most of already have points in our accounts and therefore we can buy more at 1.5 cpp.
