Australian state border restrictions

I have only just spotted this: COVID-19 border entry | COVID-19 | Service Victoria

Domestic travel permits are no longer required to enter Victoria

From 6pm Thursday 25 November, you no longer need a COVID-19 border entry permit to enter Victoria from anywhere in Australia.
I received a message from Virgin this today reminding me to fill one of these out. Would have expected them to be on top of this all things considered.

I got number of trips with VA very soon & received no email regarding the form.

Wonder if there'll be the Spacemen PPE to the max welcoming us back at MEL still.

Do you have to be double juiced Vax'd to enter Vic or NSW for that matter with any airline? With no forms anymore.

The message came in at 2pm today and the flight is sunday. I just clicked the link in the message and was taken to the Vic website which states they are no longer needed except for International which may be why they are sill sending them.

I arrived back home into NSW this afternoon after 2dys in SA and 2dys in VIC, no border pass necessary for coming back into NSW. (They do still announce upon landing, VA crew announced this) but I guess they were doing so from habit.

South Australia entry requirements for low risk areas have changed from 28/11.They have woken up to the fact forcing you to have a test before arrival within 72 hours is no good if the test is positive so have added the requirement that you need a negative test. I wonder if they will tell those of us holding permits for next week. All very messy !

I'd expect you'll need to comply with the regulations in force at the time of arrival and previous permits if worded differently are no longer valid for that. It is on the traveller to know what is current and permits and conditions are rescinded or made invalid all the time. To be honest this waiting for the test result after arrival made no sense. If you don't have a test result then the minimum is that you will have to have one at the airport and isolate until it is returned. And likely everyone else you isolate with. The only positive cases coming into SA have been from people who didn't have a result before they arrived. It makes sense given that they will possibly quarantine the whole plane if your result is positive after arrival. So much disruption by the Covid Unicorn.

I was reading a thread elsewhere yesterday, I couldn’t believe the number of people (South Australians) commenting on it to the effect that the borders should be kept totally shut until, well, forever. Going to get a bit hungry, I guess.

Well until it got out of control recently in Victoria that wasn't just an SA thing. It takes a sudden jolt to make people realise it can't be eliminated.

Spot on.
Best thing long term that can happen is let the virus in... Within couple weeks you'll have hundred cases+, those people unvaxd will get the vac, hospital numbers will steady & focus will shift onto that, bugger the daily numbers.

Vic going so well now with 1000+ daily cases, so irrelevant.
NSW same, freedom they have with less daily cases.

C'mon SA, ignore the small small numbers, look to the bigger states, you can have covid & freedoms.

Went to our big shopping centre yesterday, Chadstone, my goodness how many ppl there, lines to get into stores, 99% masked, QR check-in etc.
So good, no problem.

They do make toilet paper in Mt Gambier so they are right for that at least

I don’t think the eastern states understand that this step is a huge one for Covid free states to take. To willingly and knowingly bring it in and wear the consequences. It isn’t until this week that I’ve fully realised the impact. Last week other than masks, for the last 6 months we could eat anywhere shop anywhere play anywhere and know that we would not catch Covid nor get shut down. Now, already hundreds if not a thousand people have been put into a 7 day or 14 day lockdown simply because they ate at a particular restaurant etc. Three of the close or casual contact places listed I’ve been to just this week!

We actually cannot ignore the small numbers because it’s the resultant consequences - 7 day isolation - that is sending people crazy. We have less a feeling of freedom now than we did last week.

7 days isolation is nothing compared to months of lockdown, but it's still something we should be beyond at this point.

Many more workers will lose their jobs and eventually businesses close down if we don't fully reopen the economy or go close to it and one of the major things for that is to reopen the state borders and to keep them open.

Oh I certainly appreciate that and we dips our lids to Victoria and later NSW. I’ve been a strong advocate to open borders But Covid accidentally came to those states. Not willingly. Here it’s a deliberate act by the Govt that has introduced it and it could be a poison chalice. Woolies this morning was deserted. Never seen that on a Saturday morning so near to Christmas. We are thinking of not going to a major dinner where people likely from the world will be coming to because we cannot risk in that particular week of being locked down.

Spot on there! I must say I’ve had minimal disruption to my life compared to my NSW family members and VIC work colleagues. I haven’t missed a day of work, been on four interstate holidays without quarantine, watched six movies in the cinema, carried on dining out at least four times a week, never missed any of my 3 monthly haircuts, car wash once a week at my local, grocery/Bunnings/chemist/dry cleaners anytime I needed. Apart from maybe 3-4 weeks spread out over the past 18 months I’ve had none of my patients experience a delay in their care, getting a face-to-face consultation or a booking for testing, procedure or major surgery. While our eastern neighbours were on lockdown for months on end. My biggest gripes were needing to check the news everyday for cases whenever I was away from SA, wondering whether I’d be let back into my own state, and my Sydney rellies are still banned at this stage—not a big deal! Last time I checked we had four deaths and less than a thousand cases in total. People are realistic that the numbers going up is just around the corner and I believe it’s only a minority who want us to remain Fortress SA.

But that's the problem. They're trying to open borders and still keep covid zero. You can't do both - pick one.

Well as of midnight tomorrow you now require a negative test within 72hrs before entering the state under changes made last night. Pretty much kills all random trips to SA
