Australian state border restrictions

We see very little chance of NSW getting back to a string of zeros. And even Victoria might struggle if things don’t go perfectly from here.

So how long might (say) WA stay closed to NSW?

Didn't the WA Dear Leader talk about a permanent hard border with NSW a few days ago?

I'm booked to fly to Uluru in two weeks. As I understand it, the NT is closed to interstate visitors from declared hotspots (have to quarantine for 14 days). So that leaves out all of Melbourne, Mildura, Greater Sydney, and Adelaide: COVID19 Hotspots Declared by NT CHO - Google My Maps

It appears you can still transit Sydney Airport (and even stay overnight at an Airport Hotel) subject to certain rules.

I wonder how long before the rest of NSW and Vic are added to that map? My flights have been changed 4 times already this week and the time to cancel our accommodation without penalty is fast approaching....

There is no way I would risk any interstate travel right now. This is a rapidly changing environment and the bad genie is out of the bottle.

True; but it's probably better to let the Govt/airline/accom to cancel the trip than for me to cancel it. Less arguments/quicker refunds...perhaps?

I would cancel abd get all refunds. Will you get all back on your accom if Covid cancellation in any case? you may arrive and then have to quarantine? I predict all of NSW will be declared hotspot soon
I follow the Commonwealth CHO declaration of a hotspot as this trumps local . Good luck

I think that’s a fair assumption now sadly. NSW (and ACT by default) is going to be locked out for a long time… :(

It is unbelievable to me that the Victorian CHO has decided to cease issuing red zone permits to retaining residents from tonight except in limited compassionate cases.

Honestly are government seeking to destroy everyone's mental health? For example, what reasoning is there to stop Victorian residents from returning from South Australia after tonight? Just sad.

And unless you have T’s and C’s that specifically offer full refund on your accomodation - Covid or no Covid - you may get nothing back. The former does not mean auto refunds. I would check this first

Seems like Dan has been listening to Steve in SA. Never thought it would come to this in Australia.

Actually and sadly I think he’s listening more the battered Victorian public who have been hit by two successive lockdowns now from leaks from other states and they simply won’t tolerate it anymore. They left the border open for weeks with NSW….

(I’m not saying I agree with this btw but I understand the why from VIC)

Given the announcement that Netball is moving to QLD now, what "sports" do other states have left? Bush bashing in WA, Tiddlywinks in NSW and Quarantine Runs in VIC, hide the Devil in Tas and find an open winery party in SA?

:)

Tasmania is the only State to not have had a lock down this year so still has an active sporting scene with a few more AFL matches than they normally have.

I understand in a way living in Vic.

But what about those who have family to be with outside Victoria. Call it a sacrifice I guess? Bugger you if your level of resilience has been repeatedly battered to a thin sheet held together for the sake of appearances?

That there is still no end date to any of this and I hear increasing support for limited movement within the state let alone out of it compounds the frustration of those who can't afford to do this forever - financially or otherwise.

It is very poor & disappointing.

But you'd have to think anyone there really had had ample opportunity, knowing full well the border closure possibility.
You'd have to be a bit silly still in Sydney at this point. Anybody left world surely have extenuating circumstances so I'd hope they'd be allowed a pass.

I agree. I have extended family in NSW who were planning to visit family in VIC but that was scuppered by the lockdown. So that's unlikely to happen for months.

I was planning to visit family and friends interstate myself and with VIC in lockdown that can't happen either. Having had one vaccine dose makes no difference (even being fully vaccinated would make no difference) with current restrictions.

During the lockdown in VIC last year, I thought can it really be much worse being in the UK for a young adult than being in VIC? It was certainly frustrating to not be allowed to go on the most important international trip of my life to date.

WA did this last year, and they are doing it for NSW now. Unfortunately, the high court has rubber stamped the approach.
