Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I think there are quite a few people who just are not interested in obeying rules anymore. Canberra police have just booted out 50 people from Greater Sydney who had come without applying for an exemption to enter and obeying stay at home rules.

But but... the AFF experts have assured us that the NSW population always abide by all the rules

Most of us are lethargic and with the lock our laws have had 9-10pm bedtimes for many years.

Hubby tells me that 2 of his friends were at a listed exposure site and currently waiting for tests before they go home for 14 day quarantined no matter what the results are.

Not the Crossroads Hotel, but Crossways Hotel.

It has now been reported that the Crossroads Hotel in Casula is not the hotel that is an exposure site, but rather it is the Crossways Hotel in Stathfield South

It is rather odd as Dr Chant spefically spoke on the Crossroads Hotel this morning during the presser where she said that there had been again another case at the Crossroads Hotel., and that QR Codes were a great asset.

Shouldn’t both of them have been in home quarantine for 14 days after their arrival into WA?
If so should be no exposure sites.
As I understand it the reason there are exposure sites is that the 14 day home quarantine requirement only came in on June 23 when WA excluded all but exempted travellers from NSW. As the woman flew in to WA on June 20 she only needed a negative test to leave self isolation, which she obtained on June 21. Only requirement after that was to monitor web for NSW exposure sites and self for symptoms, both of which she did.

Can't help but wonder for those who were at the airport in Melbourne yesterday why the tier 2 advice. Seems awfully soon to be able to detect covid from a test...?

And now masks are mandatory in the ACT for the first time in the pandemic - any cases and we will have a lockdown too I believe,

I think one of the challenges here is that there does not exist cheap, quick and reliable at home tests that can you tell if you had COVID. If everyone had that option this damn virus can show its face once and for all and we can isolate it from our communities.

1st August 2021 daily case figure, what's more likely:

1,000 cases locally acquired

Is 1000 a bad number? We currently have about a quarter of the adult population with at least one vaccine dose (which reduces illness). Most of the vulnerable population has been fully vaccinated and in 5 weeks time (especially with what should be a run on second AZ doses) we’ll have a much larger proportion of the older generations vaccinated as well. We’re also 18 months in, have better treatments, better knowledge and have better prepared our hospitals.

We’ve been so conditioned to the unsustainable “COVID-0” that we hear 30 and think it’s bad. It’s time for that to change, and by August I wouldn’t think 1000 a day would be a massive concern. We can’t continue to accept zero risk.

Interestingly, blanket testing could have been a hypothetically viable option apart from lockdown. Rapids have a low rate of false result, right?? But given the WA case of delayed onset - not foolproof (or more accurately COVID proof).

Yes, 1000 new daily cases is a really bad number to have. I would encourage you to look at other jurisdictions that have similar figures and note the strain it is putting on their healthcare system, even with vaccines. I would also point out that virtually no one in Australia has gotten their COVID jab. Yes, the politicians love to point to aunt Helna in the nursing home, but there are far more at risk people than the one person they use for photo ops. The fact of the matter is, by the commonwealth's own admission, there are over 16 million doses needed to protect everyone in Phase 1 (e.g. the elderly, people with underlying medical conditions, people with disabilities, people working in quarantine centres), and NSW Health is throwing confetti and parties to celebrate the 2 millionth dose given, a large portion of whom are by definition not in the Phase 1 roll out (e.g. over 40s).

Without doing too much research, the UK is sitting at around 20,000 a day and yes they have a higher vaccination rate, but there’s not a huge strain on the NHS (well, no more than usual).

We need to move on from this COVID-0 mindset. Nobody has died since October, despite countless cases coming in from overseas and numerous “breakouts”. Few have been even sick. Even fewer admitted to hospital.

By August, 1000 “cases” a day is something we may need to begin to accept (as we do with every other virus)

Masks have been made mandatory for tonight's State of Origin in Brisbane

If you are a QLD supporter, I'd recommend one that covers your eyes also.
NSW thumps Ana's Princesses 42-0, and Gladys sends respects to Anna by texting 'QUEENSLANDER".

This outbreak if continues and grows will actually bring forward our international border re-opening.

I think just announced - another miner this time on Sunshine Coast, contagious in the community for a day
A case of return to sender, then....

Wouldn't be surprised if there was one in WA as well with the Premier standing up over there in about 5 minutes

Yes confirmed.

Further COVID-19 case identified in Queensland

27 June 2021

This afternoon, Queensland Health has identified a further case of COVID-19 in the community.
The case was a miner who had returned from working in the Northern Territory, transited through Brisbane Airport on Friday night and travelled to the Sunshine Coast.
The mine worker was infectious in the community for around a day.

We know a woman who works at David Jones Burwood,Sydney part time. She was off on the day a covid patient visited.rostered the next day but most of the staff were awaiting their Covid test result. So only 2 staff on the whole floor.Customer numbers normal for a Saturday so queues to pay.An older woman got to the front and unleashed with a profanity laced outburst. So our staff member moved her purchases to the side and said next, applause from others in the queue.
