Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

Well pretty sure WA will revoke NSWs permission to travel quarantine free, given response to SA, WA doesnt seem to care about case source.

If it is confirmed the hotel worker contracted the virus at work then its a linked case and technically QLD should remain open but sticking to their own rules isnt guaranteed.

AP to Gladys (whilst chuckling to herself) 'sorry, 28 day clock starts again, maybe next year, just like your football team, try again'.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. It's one case most likely from Quarantine. The system is working.

It's only if they find community transmission that we need to start worrying.

If any state closes it's border to NSW because of this, I hope Gladys starts restricting HQ in SYD to NSW residents. It's about time the other states lift their game.

Please, WA and QLD will imprison NSW for another couple of months for this... guaranteed..... well maybe not QLD, they seem to be at least trying to be a little more flexible.

NSW also had more sewage positives again last night as well.... WA will use this against them for sure....

Actually the closed border was giving her tremendous political grief. I doubt she will be rushing to close the border unless there is a mass outbreak.

Under the CHO's definition, if the infected contact was in quarantine it won't count.

Having said that, I'm sure they'll all have their fingers on the trigger today.

If WA put back the opening of the border on this news, I imagine most, definiltely including myself, will abandon all hope of the Christmas that we want and need.

Meanwhile dear leader in WA has been taking pot shots at airlines

Perhaps, oh gracious one, a little less sovereign risk and a little more adhering to your own policy, would lead to better capacity planning from private businesses. All good when your wage comes in on time and paid for by leaves off the government's money tree.

As stated previously im not willing to book travel into other states until they have been open to NSW and we see the reaction when the next infection occured.

We will get to see what Queensland, NT, SA, Vic and Tas do now (ACT never closed to NSW before so cant see this chnaging after 1 case). Their responses will have huge effect on future travel bookings, so many in NSW out of pocket when AP slammed borders shut after last brief reopening doubt they risk more $ if this continues to be the reaction.

But since WA never reopened without Quarantine and now likely wont, we wont get any real insight to what happens after reopening when enviable cases arise. Wa Premiere also stated yesterday that cases in NsW could lock out Vic just to make it messier.

Almost 50% of NSW hotel quarantine (overseas arrivals) cases are actually residents of other states - if those numbers were attributed to those other states who arent pulling their weight in this area, youd see how welll percpita NSW has done considering open for business.

According to NSW Health weekly surveillance report, cases from overseas

week ending 28/11 - 32
w/e 21/11 - 41
w/e 14/11 - 34
w/e 7/11 - 28

If Queensland close borders, they will destroy whatever remains of their interstate tourism market. There's a large amount budgeted for tourism promotion for Queensland in the state budget. The Gold Coast have started advertising again.

AP's messaging changed after the reopening saying that they'll try to stay open this time.

More nonsense.

It is WA's fault that the airlines had to mothball their transcontinental services in the first place.

And their fault the aircraft were shoved in the desert for so long.

Then WA didn't follow their own medical advice in reopening, so all airlines gave up hope.

Then suddenly they reopen randomly and begrudgingly and expect the airlines to just dust off a few planes and staff and open the next day with beaming smiles?

WA have also threatened to lock out QLD as well because of NSW's latest incident.

Punishing other states like VIC and QLD for one quarantine breach... in Sydney...... really? (Not that I think NSW should be punished for ONE community transmission case either!)

Cool and normal.

They never stopped. The whole time Queensland was closed to NSW (then greater Sydney) i was receiving between 2 and 4 emails a week from Queensland.com trying to get me to book a Queensland holiday.

I do believe that if any state goes back to the totally pointless “close borders” approach, NSW must switch to a system of only allowing quarantine for NSW residents.

If the individual worked in a quarantine hotel, then this is certainly not a “community transmission”

Guess nsw are busy pulling opal card data to work out which train and tram services the cleaner travelled on each day. No wordon weather they wore a mask on board.

Oh well, yet another indicator of the risks involved in quarantining people in hotels.
Of course Tasmania’s first overseas hotel quarantine started last night with the arrival of over 100 fruit pickers from Timor Leste. Being put up at the Ibis hotel downtown Hobart. I think the repatriation flights from India start next week.

Some private security workers being used but not in guest contact roles I understand.

I wonder what they will do with returning travellers who have been vaccinated? Dr FM thinks she will be vaccinated in the next few weeks and returns beginning of Feb. Given that no one really knows all that much about the vaccines, I assume she will still quarantine for 2 weeks on return?

Well if you apply the same sort of logic to people arriving from low risk countries, if there's a 1 in 100,000 (or perhaps 1 in 1 million) chance that vaccine is not effective, then she should still have to quarantine ...

But hopefully we'll get past that soon.

i doubt vaccinated people will get any exemption from hotel quarantine ro be able to quarantine at home until such time as vaccine is widely available to Australians.

The Pfizer vaccine stops you from developing the disease it does not stop you from getting the virus. Meaning a Pfizer vaccinated person can still be a carrier and infect others even if they do not develop any sumptoms themselves.

I weas just watching a interview with the US Project Warp SPeed lead scientist and he said even though they expect to be able to vacinate all americans who want it by end of June (subject to there being 4 vaccines available) people wil still need to practice physical distancing and good hygiene until 80% of the population are vaccinated to get to herd immunity.
