Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

I wonder if this is saying a lot more about our aged care homes than anything else....
Well as I posted earlier in the thread.....when we looked at a number before choosing one for my MIL......and also from my daughter's observation from working in 3 as part of her nursing course placements there are many that are simply put disgraceful. One she was at was so bad that my daughter reported it. 2 caused her quite some distress in her 2 week placements.

There are good ones, but there are a number that are not good enough.

Yep... except for some reason no government seems prepared to address that. The government is spending more money than ever before however still wants to hide under the blanket when it comes to aged care.

So Queensland Premier AP has stated this morning that the hard border with NSW and Victorian (and by extension ACT) will remain in place in until both states have zero community transmission.

Means if borders open and there is even 1 case they slam shut again - makes it impossible to plan to visit Queensland at all.

Without international tourism and 55% of the domestic tourist population locked out , cant see how their tourist industry will survive. By the time we can visit, there will be no operators left to take us out on the reef etc.

What it means is that trips are last minute. Buy n go immediately

Completely unworkable response given we know there is undetected community transmission pretty much happening at all times - which means there could be a case pop up literally anytime.

But she is campaigning for re-election so expect more garbage from her and probably worse to come.

Is it hard to get tested in Sydney (specifically W and SW Sydney?)??

Or is it the demographic in W and SW Sydney that are reluctant to come forward?

NSW records seven new cases, community transmission increases as testing rates plunge

NSW has recorded seven new cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm on Sunday – six locally-acquired and one in hotel quarantine, with just 10,000 tests conducted.

Low testing levels have prompted NSW Health to repeatedly call for people in western and south-western Sydney to come forward for testing over the last few days.

Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant warned people with flu-like symptoms are much more likely to have COVID than the flu, with very low levels of flu circulating in the community.

Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she remained concerned about potential undetected strains in western and south-western Sydney.

“My anxiety remains the same, if not slightly higher,” said Premier Gladys Berejiklian. “Because every week we had an accumulation of unsourced cases.”

More money from Gov coffers yes. Unfortunately just becomes more more in a few peoples (& corporates) pockets. Not being spent on providing better services in many cases. From various media reports, the number of non-compliant homes with multiple impairments that are detected every year with no punitive or other consequences is astounding.

Which is unrealistic for most people, who have to give their employer notice of leave, even if its only a few days off. And the way AP is behaving, one would worry about her closing the border while you were in the air, landing to found you'd been refused entry.

There continues to be an accusation is that the Vic march was associated with an outbreak. (post 6456). This has been refuted/debunked.

That’s not quite what post 6456 said:

How can anyone 'debunk' it?

It's been admitted that those who went were one of the sources of transmission for this virus.

Talking about individual participating infectees as a source of transmission, not the march being associated with an outbreak.

Look at the history.
Reported test rates on Mon/Tue are always the lowest due to the weekend test effect.
Will bounce back again by We'd.

Interesting poll of AFR readers - 30% surveyed thought a faster Stage 4 lockdown wasn’t necessary; 60% agreed with the proposition.

I wasn’t referring to the numbers today, it’s been consistently called out as an issue by NSW Health over the last week or so.... hence the question.

Not sure why they keep calling it out (other than for butt covering), as when you look at the numbers over the past few weeks they average 22-25K test per day which is pretty high, Victoria aside, no other state in Aus has ever done anywhere near that amount on a single day.

Was talking with a colleague on a Teams chat this morning who lives in Parramatta (West Syd hot spot and suburb that OLMC and Court cluster are in) and he said he and his family went for a test on Saturday (none were showing any symptoms, purely precautionary) at one of the drive throughs and it was simple to get tested. Although he said very unpleasant experience. Has his results this morning and negative as expected.

The suburbs with outbreaks all have pop up drive through clinics in addition to permanent ones in the area, so easier there I would say to get tested. Whereas, because zero cases in my LGA there is no where within walking distance of my home (i.e. with 5kms) where I can get a test (if i needed one - which I currently do not), Id actually have to take bus or uber to a hospital which is about 7kms away (which isn't something you are supposed to do), so not sure how I could safely get there as walking 15km round trip with symptoms would be very hard. Not everyone has a car, and I wouldnt ever ask my elderly father to drive me and put himself at risk, I wouldnt want to ask any of my friends either.

That has already happened. When a suburb in Sydney was added to the hotspot list a few weeks ago, at least 2 people (father and son I think) on a Jetstar flight from Sydney were denied entry upon arrival and had to be flown back on the next flight. They were in the air when the announcement was made.

I went to local shopping centre in northern Sydney today and noticed mask wearing has declined again. Much less than 50% wearing masks whereas a week ago it was around 70%. Complacency setting in again.

Then it must either be reluctance of certain groups of people in SW and W Sydney to get tested, or that the information that they should be getting tested isn't getting through to them for whatever reason.... similar to Melbourne's outer north, north west....

Poor journalism by AFR. Mitchell Shire is still in Stage 3 (not Stage 4 with Melbourne) as far as I’m aware

Oh I realize, but governments don’t care.
