Australian Reports of the Virus Spread

And that’s a major concern.

There are currently police checkpoints stopping every single vehicle on parramatta road at Annandale. This purely on the basis of a “public health order” that was thrown together without any real scrutiny.

Agree or disagree with these protesters, but it’s hard to say there isn’t a major breach of our basic rights going on here.

I saw all 3 of the Inner West ones - the one in Annandale (but my destination street was before it), on Victoria Rd (as I was going in the opposite direction) and passed through and was stopped at the one on the CityWest Link as I came home from my vax appointment and then picked up some food.

I had no issue with being asked for my ID and answering the quick question as to why I was out.

I fail to see how the enforcement of the public health order which was reasons for leaving home, and limits to travel distances breached my rights at all. In fact it was pleasing to see that there were measures being taken as there was a decent amount of traffic out.

Well the QLD lockdown has given me the day of seeing the most AFL teams ever in the space of 4 hours.
Alighting in LST from BNE were the Brisbane Lions. That at least was the original plan as they are playing Hawthorn tomorrow at UTAS stadium.

As I arrived at the VA baggage carousel in BNE the GWS Giants were dropping luggage at the oversize baggage windows.

As I exited the terminal the Gold Coast Suns were heading into the VA BNE Terminal.

Can’t help but think that Qld may have burnt their bridges with the AFL today and destroyed any chance of hosting the GF again now.

Does any body actually believe for one second the states are going to follow this? Do you think WA won’t slam down it’s border on whatever justification it feels like regardless of former agreements (like it does now) and conversely does anyone honestly think if NSW achieves 70 or 80% vaccination first it is going to wait and not push for (and likely get) international flights just because another state is dragging the chain?
Waiting for international borders to re-open at some stage in 2022, then a state premier doing a snap lockdown for whatever purpose, and rejecting international flights from midnight that same day. Just like they have done domestically in multiple occasions, imagine informing a 787 full of say, Chinese tourists, that they are welcome if they follow federal police to a mandated 14 day hotel quarantine, or get back on their plane and return to China. Image Beijing's reaction to that. Feds can allow planes to land, but states can bar actual entry through said state.

Well, I'd say there is an argument to be had here that the governments may have created an environment where some in the community (by no means all) are too afraid to even seek healthcare when ill.
Yes article about this on ABC web site suggesting fear of losing income for rest of family that had to quarantine, distrust of government and language/cultural issues.

You have no issues being asked for ID and question about why you’re simply going about your day? Interesting. I recall a time in history when people were forced to show papers when they had the nerve to be out on the street. It’s why my ancestors fled to Australia.

But you’re right, a “public health order” justifies it. Governments will love these orders in the future.

These are lessons all learnt one year ago in Victoria. It really does seem surprising that there isn’t more sharing of tactics to deal with such issues across jurisdictions.

The states are at war with each other and the federal government and have been since March last year. Sadly I don't find it surprising at all

4 corners should be interesting this week.

Covering growing resentment of lockdowns, lockdown fatigue, failure of the Australian government to vaccinate fast enough etc.

Lockdown: How Australia became trapped by COVID-19

For weeks, millions of Australians have been trapped by outbreaks of COVID-19 around the country.

The number of infections is climbing with the spread of the virulent Delta strain.

This type of outbreak is exactly what the nation's leading experts warned of when Four Corners reported on the failings in Australia's vaccine rollout in May.

Their warnings have become a grim reality. On Monday Four Corners examines how Australia was left dangerously exposed.

You can't look at the 'act' (of stopping someone) in total isolation. It sits within a framework.

There is a pandemic. States of emergency have been declared to deal with that pandemic. Rules have been put in place under those states of emergency.

The legislative framework to declare a state of emergency and make rules have all been subject to debate and approval by the respective parliaments, and are subject to ongoing review by those parliaments.

So we won't be having governments using public health orders in future for some spurious reason. They have to be justified within the framework, and are subject to review.

Even if we did have a Bill of Rights in Australia... not all rights are created equally. Someone's right to freedom wouldn't necessarily overrule someone else's right to safety.

Wasn't it Bill Shorten who said the most terrible part of the Vic lockdown was seeing the locking up of those communities by Police etc? Is that really the lesson to be learned?

The truth is you do not overcome the lived experience of many immigrant communities with some clever tactics, it will take decades.

I am in QLD and am in the 3 day lockdown... Delta is scary at how quickly it can spread... I hope we are not locked down for weeks like NSW and VIC have...

We have new cases today but not out of control. Hard and fast will equal less time but it will be longer than Tuesday. Friday is the target. Don't ask me how I know.

Plus side: Brisbane is a much less densely populated city, sprawls, people move around far less, PT is not as well developed and is more outdoors with warmer temperatures.

Negatives: Social distancing and covid checkins etc woeful. Testing rates low. Qld Health is always a liability …

I think we will be ok personally.
