Patterson added to Test squad In-form Patterson added to Test squad

Well, who couldn't see that coming. He was unlucky to miss out first time round, so not surprised after his Hobart innings. I am surprised that they released a Test squad a fortnight out form a series though when they had a tour match 'trial' just before it though!!
You are surprised at the actions of the selectors?

We have tickets to day 1 at Lord's but paid the ridiculous price for hospitality tickets to guarantee a spot. We will have to consume a fair bit of Veuve to come out even but given Australia's batting of ate this may be the order of the day.

We have put in an application for the Public Ballot on the other days but I don't like our chances.

Well one can hardly blame the selectors - they couldn't have missed the performance of Kurt Patterson unless they were blind - 157 and 102 (both not out). Will Pukovski scored 23 and 33 n.o. plus Labuschagne 6 and 50; so neither have made themselves automatically 12th and 13th man. Renshaw 7 and 10 with Burns 10 and 22 didn't give themselves automatic selection. Doran's 102 n.o. is also a positive sign. Hollands 4 wickets in their second Innings was also impressive (3 bowled and 1 lbw)

14 into 11 means 3 don’t play...

I’m figuring that’s 2 bowlers and 1 batter to miss out. Odds on

Lord's Ticket Office

You think that is bad check these out with 20% VAT to be added:
The Ashes - Lord's

The Cricket Australia packages were also ridiculous at about $4,000 AUD per person with the accommodation being a Doubletree.

Wow. But what a great memory you will enjoy. It’s only money.

Agreed Mrs SponsorSFC is a cricket tragic. On her first trip to London she went straight from the plane to a tour at Lords but has yet to see a match there.

So I am more than happy to pay as a one off considering the lottery of the ballot and the CA package options were very poor value. Using points for the rest of the trip means we can afford to spend some more on activities like this.

Also helps that we picked up 160,000 velocity points by using this purchase to hit our min spend on the ANZ traveller offer.

The timing of the squad announcement vs the only bona fide selection trial was staggering.
But nothing surprises these days, indeed

Then the SACA Package is similarly priced to Cricket Australia or perhaps it’s a rebadged one ?

I would expect so, I did a bit of comparison when the tours/packages were announced and they all seemed much the same.

We didn't want to do a tour as we prefer to do our own thing when travelling.

The only place you could get a match ticket & accommodation package for Lord's was through the Cricket Australia Ticket Office. It looked like most of the others were just reselling the CATO packages maybe with some ad-dons outside the match days..

Don’t mind doing a tour every now and then but England hardly needs a tour...

The single supplements are also a stinker

I just realised tonight I’m showing as CA.

SOME self appointed guru called CA knows nothing about CA

Well, this is it - the Day of the First Test @ The Gabba. I'm on in an hour and will be doing my usual Trip Report for the first 2 days (alas, can't do more).

Glorious day up here on top of the range, I presume the same down there...

Urgh, Mrs Rock organised a family coast outing this weekend o_O:p:p, so no Gabba Test for me this year.

The batting order is an interesting decision by the selectors for this match. Looks nothing like the team that faced India. Wouldn't want to collapse against Sri Lanka. Wonder how many going to England for the Ashes?
