AUD / USD billing issue

Recently booked a return ticket originating in the US, and I accidentally selected for my card to be billed in AUD rather than USD... my credit card pays out double Qantas FF points for overseas purchases, so I was keen for it to be billed in USD.

I called up the Platinum FF number and they said the only thing to do was to get that booking cancelled and refunded, and book a new ticket and specify to be billed in USD, which I did... same exact price, so no harm no foul.

The refund has just come through, but they screwed up and refunded the *USD* amount... plus, with currency fluctuations, the post-conversion AUD amount I was refunded is less than the AUD amount I paid.

Spoke to them on the phone and they did cancel/refund the correct booking, which they agree was in AUD, but I've just asked to send statements to the hotlineakl email address, and I'm sure it's gonna languish there for a while...

So yeah, incredibly annoying situation... does anyone know where else I might be able to chase this to get it resolved quickly?

Gee, that sucks... The trouble here is that the actual amount is in USD. The AUD price is just the USD price which has been converted at whatever the rate is on the day. Look up "dynamic currency conversion". It is possible that the exchange rate changed between the time you paid and the time the refund was given.

While I agree that they *should* have refunded you the AUD amount you paid, it might not be that simple.

Let me know via private message, with your details as reference, if you haven't heard from them by the end of the day.

I had a something a bit similar happen to me.

I booked nearly $2000 accommodation on an overseas web site and got double billed for it. I advised my credit card company and the charge was reversed after a couple of weeks, but I was a little out of pocket due to exchange rate variations and maybe some margins in the USD - AUD conversions. Not a big amount, but annoying.

Red Roo - PM'd you again... I received a reply from hotlineakl >2 weeks ago about receiving a refund, but the actual refund still hasn't been done yet...
