ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I don't know about anyone else, but I no longer earn ATO points on my Westpac Black cards, and no longer have the ATO earning but no-longer-available Westpac KrisFlyer card, so a better earn rate at Westpac is no longer relevant for most people's ATO payments (the topic of this thread is "ATO (tax office) payments by credit card") :)

In any event, I have the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, not Rewards, which earns 0.75 Qantas points per Visa ATO $ spent and 1.5 Qantas points per Amex ATO $ spent, so transfer rates to CX/SQ are a moot point.

FWIW, I get 1.33 CX/SQ/V etc points per $ on my Citibank Visa card, but no ATO earn at Citibank anymore, which is, I think, a bit better points earn than Westpac, or any other Australian issued Visa or Mastercard, as far as I know, for non-ATO expenses...

Hope this helps clarify my last post.

Yes, Citi prestige is the highest points earning Visa or Mastercard in Australia ($700 yearly fee or 1/2 if citigold customer) but non-ATO.

for visa/mc yes, but altitude black AMEX is slightly better at 1.5SQ/$.

CX is only 1point/$ for citi too i believe, so not quite as good as SQ/VA, but a solid 1W option.

bbqwer 1.5 Altitude points translate to 0.75 real Kris Flyer Miles so that is half what it used to be before the Westpac Black was "enhanced for ATO use".
Westpac Kris Flyer Platinum Amex runs at 1.25 Kris Flyer Miles per ATO dollar but no new applicants are being accepted.

Correct, im fully aware 0.75 KF. Altitute black is the only card we have for KF points ( no choice :( for us )

It came in the (snail) mail, one of those glossy cardboard promotions:

It seemed fairly unambiguous; you earn your normal points plus "bonus" points to make total of 3 points/$. Everywhere except, interestingly, at David Jones where it is only 2 points/$. There doesn't seem to be much more to it other than the previously mentioned 20000 bonus point limit, and it cuts out on 30 June. It requires registration on line, here is the link if you want to try your luck but I guess it may be targeted if you haven't received the offer.
David Jones

An update on this: I'm pleased to report that the bonus points have posted as advertised for ATO spend. I will be making sure I fill my 20000 bonus point quota.

None of these pay on ATO so perhaps back on topic? ;)

Not correct. Westpac does earn, but at 0.75 FF miles instead of 1.5. It think it still makes it the most attractive card for transfers to CX. May also be best for SQ if you don;t already have the KrisFlyer card (which is no longer being issued).

Happy to be corrected.

Yes I used my HSBC Qantas Platinum VISA card last month and the points appeared on my statement and have subsequently turned up in my QFF account.

Earning rate was 1 point per dollar. Capped to 300,000 points per year (I'm assuming year as determined by the application of the annual fee).

Paying off my EDR Mastercard this month and looking forward to calling them to cancel after their last set of T&C changes. It was fun whilst it lasted but the fat lady has sung!

Having cut up my WOW EDR card, I am tossing up between QFCU Visa Platinum and HSBC Qantas Visa Platinum.

Can anybody confirm that both cards currently work for ATO payments (from the post I have quoted, I assume HSBC is capped at 300k per year). The QF has a 30k sign up bonus, and the HSBC a 20k sign up bonus. Is there any other reason not to pick the QF card over the HSBC?

Thanks in advance..
