After leaving the Vasa Museum we collected our bags from our hotel and headed straight to the airport. The journey from Stockholm to Tromso was interesting and not a route we would choose normally but we were very happy our holiday could continue without any interruptions after the train was cancelled.
All flights were with SAS and we were able to check our bags through to Tromso. The first flight was a one hour flight from Stockholm to Oslo with a 55 minute connection before a flight from Oslo to Trondheim. The flight was full and we were both in middle seats at the back of the plane.
Of course boarding seemed to take forever and we arrived 20 minutes late into Oslo. However when flying within the Schengen area, no checks are done on arrival and you can move quickly to the domestic flights terminal. I was using the SAS app so knew what gate to head to when we arrived. We arrived at the new gate just after boarding for the Oslo to Trondheim flight had started.
I was able to book an airport hotel online for Trondheim. The flight to Trondheim was about 45 minutes flying time and we arrived as scheduled. We stayed at Scandic Hell Hotel which was about a ten minute walk along a snowy path that was thankfully well marked and with good lighting. We were happy we didn’t have our luggage to take through the snow. It was also comforting to check the Apple AirTags in our luggage to see that they also made the flight from Oslo. We made the trek back to the airport early the next morning when temperatures were -12c for the walk.
When we arrived back at the airport we realised there was another stop on the way to Tromso. The plane stopped at Bodo (another hour flight) where about 25% of the plane disembarked and new passengers hopped on board while we waited onboard. Bodo did look spectacular from the air.
We finally arrived in Tromso (one hour flight), where it was snowing and even after this journey we arrived about five hours before we would have arrived if we had taken the train.
We had a walk around Tromso and yes it is as good as everyone says.
What a view from the local library.
