ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Perhaps ask for confirmation in writing - by email or a message into your NAB customer email system (in your web profile) if they "can't" email.

Then you have something to go back to them with if the points do not post...

Good luck. I am using ANZ Black with the ATO next week & will report the outcome here.

With rules changing it can be easy to use a card that has moved ATO points earn to zero. I was unhappy when Citi stopped and told no one but that was about 3 years ago. It will probably happen to all of us some time in the next few years. We have Bankwest Platinum, HSBC Platinum,QCU Platinum,Westpac Platinum Kris that are currently working plus two Citi US cards.
My youngest son uses ANZ Black Amex but I haven't bothered.

Whoah. Thanks for the heads up. I was aiming to use it one last time next week for a big bill. Will need to check the billing cycle first. Received 1:1 QFF on Jetstar Platinum MasterCard last week. (Was checking a smaller bill to make sure)

I thought they did not work for ATO ?

For those who have a David Jones Amex sitting in a drawer gathering dust: Has everyone received an offer to "receive 3 reward points/$ everywhere"? It is only until 30 June and limited to 20000 bonus points but I can't see anywhere in the Ts & Cs that ATO spend is excluded.

Normally this card is only useful at supermarkets and service stations but I might dust it off and put a few little tax payments through it. I calculate that by the time I wash the points through SPG I will be able to earn a small stash of Krisflyer points at the rate of 1.87 points/$.

Not huge in the general scheme of things but I guess it all helps.

No but I'd like to as I give this card a fair hammering at DJ's through the QF Mall :D

On this point (changes to NAB Amex) my understanding is that the changes - while announced to be from 1 May - actually kick in from the beginning of the first cycle date that ends after 1 May. In other words if your cycle date is say 21 April to 20 May then all transactions from 21 April are subject to the new rules. Therefore paying ATO will only get points if that payment is made BEFORE 20 April (in this example)
I think if this was the case it would be stated in the notice attached to your statement. Where do you get this information from?
As it stands the notice states 1 May and I would expect any ATO spend up to this date to be honoured.

I called NAB customer service - what they told me is as I have stated. I made my ATO payment in accordance with the advice, just to be sure.

thanks...can someone confirm this first hand ??? I still have a big bill to pay and don't want to waste the points. at worst I will use the QEDRCC and get the shandy of points but if I can get 1:1 I will.
Have not applied for the QCU card as I hold a number of cards, some inactive and guess that QCU will not like that
thanks in anticipation

Jetstar stopped working a few months ago for *most* people. Rang up and challenged multiple times and they say their t&cs don't allow for points earning on ATO (even though they had before). They said that they are working through some points loop holes that are somehow allowing some lucky people to still earn.

But basically - no you don't earn. If you do - will disappear at some point a la Citibank who took a while to turn them off.

Only way to see is to try yourself!!

I had to talk to NAB customer service last week and as an aside to my main enquiry I asked about ATO, which they confirmed would be paid up until 1 May. I would expect as with any CC that points are earned the day of payment.
It would seem the 2 responses we have received from the service desk are at odds with each other. Not the first time.

I was also told by NAB over phone that all payments to May 1 would be honoured, regardless of statement date. That does seem to be in keeping with the notice - I would think they are obliged to honour the wording as written.

I have one , but haven't received this offer .
Can I ask how they sent it & are there any other details we could know about as I will enquire about it.

Well I thought that originally also, but decided I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Has anyone used the HSBC Qantas Platinum VISA for ATO lately? And, if so, is it still earning 1 point per dollar.

Yes I used my HSBC Qantas Platinum VISA card last month and the points appeared on my statement and have subsequently turned up in my QFF account.

Earning rate was 1 point per dollar. Capped to 300,000 points per year (I'm assuming year as determined by the application of the annual fee).

Paying off my EDR Mastercard this month and looking forward to calling them to cancel after their last set of T&C changes. It was fun whilst it lasted but the fat lady has sung!

I didn't know it was capped. Bugger... Guess I need another card as well now.

Would I be right in assuming ANZ ff black using Amex card would be a direct replacement for nab at the same cost and earn rates?

Can anyone name a card that will still earn Virgin Velocity points for ATO payments, after the 1 May demise of the NAB Amex?
