ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

I would suggest you use a free Woolworths card namely the Everydayrewards.com.au card this year as you only have to pay a 0.48% fee so points arrive cheaply at the rate of one per dollar spent.

Yep, i have that one, but recently thinking about it, I don't know if i will have use for QFF for next couple of years now but i guess i can bank it up. Velocity just seems to make more sense for the areas i will be going to esp now SQ is on board as well. And I only got a 10k limit on my EDR which wouldnt be enough therefore unable to take full advantage of the <55 days before paying the bill..... so i figured the ~1.5% cash back on the ANZ would be good if i could actually use it for that purpose. I supposed its a gamble. Its has government charges/fees in the exclusion criteria which has the same wording as HSBC but thats fine.

umm decisions decisions :p

The points conversion to SQ flights from Velocity points has been reported as being lousy to ultra lousy. Etihad redemptions are reported as being very good.
SQ deal with their direct customers really well so if you want to go that way you might do Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer as I still use their Amex and it works fine on ATO payments.
There are some new Velocity credit cards if you want to go that way. There are threads on these new cards.

Because I am travelling this next week I have been doing the ATO BAS today (due on 21st).
Did a BPay yesterday to give my Citi Select card some extra legs and I used 3 cards to get it paid.

Looked at KF directly but geez its hard to not hit one of those "wait list" ones...... maybe its just me? or maybe coz i dont have any KF status

Scheps I have no status with SQ but with one finger typing we have 5 international trips booked with them.
I look out of Singapore first then if that is available I come back to Perth and look for a through ticket.
I will take Saver and Standard on line for the 15% points discount.
Paying the ATO is a really good way of getting great tickets for less in business and first class.

If the ATO bill is greater than your credit limit you need to increase your BPay ability.
Then re-arrange the date when your credit card bill falls due so that date suits you better.
You could also alternate which cards you use if you want extra free days on your cards.

As in you look at 2 singles rather than a return?

Of the 4 legs i can see, usually 3 is fine, just one has wait list...

the 15% discount is nice :) pity about the taxes though....

Yes I book one ways on SQ.
Let's say you are blocked on Singapore to Australia....
Choices would be :
Go to an adjacent city
Buy a ticket
Use other points say Velocity/Etihad
Call SQ Kris Flyer in Sydney as they are wonderful but you will miss the discount if they finally put the deal through for you. They will suggest something and you can do the booking and keep the 15% saving.

Back to taxes....paying the ATO after their due date can be pretty costly as they charge twice what you can earn off a bank.

Didnt know could do that as i thought going one way would cost way more and not 1/2 of a return so never even tried!

Yea, poor enough as it is, paying enough tax as it is, let alone paying extra interest !!!!

There is no way of paying taxes (SQ) with points is there... not like ASA.... couldnt see anything so assume not.

Those SQ taxes keep the seats so you can put your name on them. It is cash for their high charges so no it is definitely not a QF JASA.
I am on one of those this afternoon. That zero cash is pretty attractive as 45,000 points for a one way costs $216 on paying the ATO on the best Visa and MasterCards.

Cove, you gotta take it easy some day...Its just a game remember.... You play the game so hard makes me look like I'm sleeping, and I do try my very best to keep up with you...!

I guess I am just in the mini league amongst the "high Roll Players" around here, still ATO is a great earn for this sole trader...!

I can still remember having to pay about one thousand dollars 15 years ago for a PER-MEL-PER to go to a meeting (in economy).
The ATO and Woolworths are our new travel partners so sit back, relax and watch the on board movies.

And it's a game we all love to play... :D

Edit, but I do wonder what is happening with the Coles / Virgin partnership these days cove...?

I don't have to deal with Coles but I believe they are getting really painful to deal with. We should be doing gift cards at Woolworths as the ATO don't get a slice of all your 5% savings and you get the same points earn.

I think our Work Social Club could run the Woolies gift card program really well. I love the idea of our staff getting discounts on stuff they buy. There is nothing for the ATO to collect on either!

As long as its under $300 cove ..... lol

I don't know how I've been missing this thread for so long! I think I must have seen the subject line and though oh I cant do that as the paperwork from the ATO for our BAS says no CC's. Over the weekend I finally read the thread (all the way through!) and I can't believe what I have been missing out on. With a monthly BAS payment that usually sits around $20K I could almost cry thinking of all the points I have missed out on! Never mind, making the first BAS payment today with Plat Amex and can't wait for the points to start rolling in! Did the sums, and even taking into account the higher surcharge this will give us enough points in a year to book flights that would have cost 3x as much if paying cash.

Thank you AFF and your collective wisdom, I have learnt so much by frequenting here the last couple of years, its really changed by life in some ways :)

I really should make an effort to meet some of you IRL so I can thank you all personally :)

Cheers

Timmi

Not sure if this has been mentioned before - I haven't spotted it, but this is a very long thread - but be aware that you can pay Payroll Tax (at least in QLD & VIC) via CC as well.

VIC only charge 0.33% surcharge for Visa/MC too!
