ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

Hi Duffa,
how do you get 1.33 points per dollar etc. ???
The Australia post incentive will be for payment of monthly postage accounts I think. I have a monthly POSTAGE PAID account and got a letter recently indicating they will impliment credit card provisions in 2012 etc.
I pay everything for the ATO with my UNCAPPED Woolworths Everyday Master Card. DON'T use AMEX the fee is too high.
Other one that can be done if it affects anyone is to pay your Tasmanian State Revenue Office Land Tax bills with Credit Card as well ( M/Card or Visa accepted)

Duffa has qualified for Citibank Select Visa at 1.333 points per dollar but the qualification is out of reach of many due to the $120,000 tax assessment test.
Woolworths EDR,HSBC,BankWest and Citibank currently have cards that produce good results of a point a dollar to the ATO but caps can apply to all but the Woolworths EDR card.
You would be wise to have a back up as lots of things can change so last month I used a bit of Amex to keep my limits intact into the future even though it costs more.
Back to Visa in January and then February is a real biggie so I will share that one around a bit.

A Golden Rule here is always use the cheaper Visa/Mastercard if you believe that fee may not be tax deductible as that fee is just another part of your cost of living.

It always pays to have a live Plan B so if your favourite card is stopped/gets misplaced/changes adversely.....you are still ok with the second and/or third method of paying the ATO as they have specific dates for paying to avoid penalty interest.
Sure my favourite cards are the 2 Citi Select ones as they are uncapped Visa cards one of which earns SQ Kris points and the other one earns QF points. Plan B is Amex direct cards and PlanC is Westpac Kris Flyer Platinum Amex.

Flexiblity can work when something changes.

It's only 1 QFF point per dollar though for QFF points isn't it?

1.333 for SQ Kris Flyer and 1.00 on QF per dollar spent on a Citi Select card.
So if you pay $50,000 to the ATO on the SQ Kris Flyer version it costs $50,240 and the points earned come out at a final 66,970 real SQ points.
The same thing on the QF version comes out as 50,240 points for the $50,240 spend.
Very nice!

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

The situation remains though that if your priority is QFF points and you want to pay the lower visa/MC surcharge then the only card that returns greater than $1:1 QFF is the Citibusiness Gold at $1:1.25 QFF.

Citi Business is capped at 250,000 so the generosity is limited but would work for lots of AFF folks.

Yes, can verify you ARE able to pay Company Tax and PAYG (for employees).
have just done both in the recent days.
despite the form saying that you are NOT able to pay via Credit Card.
Yes, just need the PRN detail on the ATO form.
am loving it!

Kathe, thanks for confirming this. More points, here I come!

Thanks to js for starting this thread, and all the other contributors, and of course the ATO.
have just booked Malaysian Airlines Business Class Return Syd - KUL for 3 pax for the F1 in March. Usually just go for the Upgrade from Y - J, but decided i had numerous points up my sleeve and we deserve this. bring on March 2012 (although it will be a big week, get back from Melbourne F1 on the Monday and fly out to KL on the Wednesday. oh well, the things we do for our sport)

My next move with credit cards is to try to move the billing cycle so the end of the month is about 15th to 18th area of the month as all the taxes are payable either 21st or 28th.
That way the free credit period on the cards is improved so the funds earn interest in between time.
First move was increase the credit limits.
Second move was increase the daily BPay limits.
It's all good in tax payment land for us.

Should never say that on the last entry.....my Westpac card had an attempted fraud on it today....so that card has to be re-issued....I am hoping that is done quickly....feeling a bit lucky all the same as the thief got dust.

I made progress on changing 3 credit card billing date close offs so that they occur at the best timing for paying taxes. It may take a few weeks but it was worth the phone calls.
I think my thief wanted more than yours Peter....they need to talk?? My thief tried to get about $3k but that was US dollars which are shorter than $Aussie. Having a large credit limit card suspended could be a bit uncomfortable seeing I am travelling quite a bit.

Great to get the billing period aligned - I'm still working on the higher credit limits- but always worry about a pre-charged card being compromised - more so for the hassle than anything. Wouldn't be fun.

Nice one, cove!
I have had all of mine lined up on 24th of the month for quite some time but had to pull two back to the 21st to give me some flexibility.

Has anyone managed to get points with the ANZ rewards platinum? the T and C says government charges excluded so doesnt look good but would be sweet if someone has actually done this already and been credited points...
