ATO (tax office) payments by credit card

From the BankWest PDS at http://www.bankwest.com.au/library/pdf/PDS_20120629-163837.pdf"

So the question is whether "Government charges" includes payments to the ATO or not.

Also, no exclusion of BPay spend. That is encouraging.

I'm getting Bpay ok on the World card pay points ok.
Just now disappointed about ATO on it as I tested it with $5k - so just lost 5k QF points.

EDIT: Just read back and I see that the results are inconsistent, so maybe I wont risk it.

I'm still hoping someone has tried the AMEX Red Velocity ... and might report plse? If I had a tiny bill to pay, that would be me, but with a largish bill I'd like not to fail.

Try $ 1,000 if in doubt and see what happens on your reward statement.
either they will or they won't and you can soon work it out.

Yes the Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer Amex now earns 1.25 miles per dollar since April 1st and this card is not offered to new applicants.

Has anyone used the HSBC Qantas Platinum VISA for ATO lately? And, if so, is it still earning 1 point per dollar.

I'm very regretful I went to switch to this card a couple of days after they pulled it for new applicants

I hope so, I applied for it last night to replace NAB.

I've had it for a while Shifty - due to the 2 points per dollar for overseas purchases (it just got a very solid work out during a four week trip through Europe), but haven't used it for ATO. Am also planning to dump my NAB card post the 1 May changes. After that it's either HSBC (assuming it still earns points for ATO) or Westpac Earth Black at .75 pts per dollar.

Thanks cove. I was under the impression we should use the Visa for Westpac Platinum Kris Flyer to maximise value whilst minizing the cost?

I used to use the Westpact Altitute black....

Most need the extra miles so they tend to use the Westpac Amex Platinum Kris Flyer to get the additional 0.75 miles. Sure it is a bit more cost wise but you can go business, first or suites more quickly and more often.

On this point (changes to NAB Amex) my understanding is that the changes - while announced to be from 1 May - actually kick in from the beginning of the first cycle date that ends after 1 May. In other words if your cycle date is say 21 April to 20 May then all transactions from 21 April are subject to the new rules. Therefore paying ATO will only get points if that payment is made BEFORE 20 April (in this example)

OUCH! In that case my NAB card is already cooked, as my cycle is from the 7th to the 7th, which if I understand what you are saying means that any ATO payments post 7 April would not earn points?

Agreed. Not going to use NAB any further for ATO just to be sure.

Whoah. Thanks for the heads up. I was aiming to use it one last time next week for a big bill. Will need to check the billing cycle first. Received 1:1 QFF on Jetstar Platinum MasterCard last week. (Was checking a smaller bill to make sure)

I just pushed 5 figures through with this card to the ATO and you gave me a bit of a heart attack! Just checked my cycle date and I think I am ok though.

Hi. Can I ask what you base this on? You may well be correct but I rang NAB with exactly that question afew weeks ago and was told that all ATO payments till May 1 would still accrue points, regardless of cycle. But as we know, the person on end of phone doesn't always get it right.
