Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Of course they are. If they come along and you need to book travel anyway then you're better off. If you don't need to avail of them there is no cost to you.

I find them useful if the timing is right when the general promotion in Feb this year just booked 2-3 cheap one way flexible economy fights for Aug as I did not not know what flight I might need. My QF renewal month is AUG and as it turns out I have to go to SIN and NZ a couple of times, for one way domestic fares are now 3 international fares. It is a good kick start.

I've used a DSC promo at the same time an Asia Sale was happening. It was great because I was in the middle of planning a HKG trip anyway and had the money just sitting there ready to go.

Sometimes the stars will align.

Whilst not the norm I have seen sales on when DSC offers have hit.. I snagged a cracker last year

Yes. Has happened for me several times. Including last year & this year again.

DSC to NOU & DPS during sale fares. Both years extremely high yield, and 4 lovely holidays as our icing on the cake.

Plus many DSC / Sale combo trips to NZ over the last couple of years.

I think another point to this discussion is that even if the DSC pricing was twice that of the sale fare, I generally wouldn't have the additional leave to take double the time off work to do two trips instead of one.

Last year's QF DSC in August aligned with an AY sale.

My QF reset date was 1 Sep and I was back to WP by by 16 Sep helped by Typhoon Mongkut and some ORC with duplicate crediting.

Happy days.

Or buy a gift voucher and book it later when the Sales fares turn up

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

Rule 1: Never, ever "chase" status. Unless you are just doing it for ego purposes. If you travel enough to naturally earn it, the benefits of status are a small bonus. Nothing more.

Rule 2: Never, ever, buy a flight due to a DSC promo that you would not otherwise have needed. Unless you enjoy paying hundreds of dollars in unnecessary tickets just to get into a lounge, which will be crowded and cough.

Rule 3: Seriously consider what you expect from status. You will find that at least 95% of your expectations are false. Unless a fellow human saying "hello " to you really really does it for you, you will always find that you are treated effectively the same no matter what your status. The crew don't give a rat's behind if you are a FF mogul or on an award ticket.

Rule 4: Taking into account Rule 2, treat DSC as an opportunity to tweak otherwise necessary tickets. The DSC help towards LTG, etc. But refer to Rule 3 when thinking about this.

Rule 5: Follow Rule 4.

Agree generally with the sentiment, however working for an employer with a Y travel policy, status makes life a lot more comfortable upgrade wise.
