Can you still travel to China using APEC card and new passport for Australian citizens? The APEC card is not yet updated with the new passport details.

Nope you are screwed - new passport then new APEC card reqd - you won't be able to checkin let alone enter China - tis a ***** but that is life.

Is this based on your experience? The updated passport details has been submitted online but haven't received the new APEC card. Thanks.

I suspect that may be a way of streamlining your application for a new APEC card.

How long ago did you submit the new passport details?

Dogging deeper i see the following (dated November 20, 2019)

Updating us when you get a new passport

Your ABTC is valid for five years from the date of issue, or three years from this date if your application was received by the Department before 1 September 2015. If the passport associated with your ABTC application expires within this period, the expiry date shown on your ABTC will reflect that of your passport. To make full use of your ABTC’s lifetime, you should advise the Department of your new passport details. A new ABTC, which aligns with your new passport number, will be issued to you. The expiry date of your new ABTC will be five years from the date that your first card was issued, or three years from this date if your application was lodged with the Department before 1 September 2015.
To update your passport details submit a copy of your new passport bio-data page through ImmiAccount.
To access the passport update details form, you must:
  • login to your ImmiAccount
  • click on the 'New Application' menu
  • navigate to the 'APEC' menu
  • select 'APEC Business Travel Card' to open the online form
  • select 'Update Passport Details' on page 2 of the online form
You will be required to provide the document number of your current ABTC. As there is provision for only one passport to be linked to an ABTC, if you do not update your passport details with the Department, you may experience delays at airports and possibly be refused entry to foreign economies.

I think mine took around 3 weeks but not certain - I am in China now and don’t have ready access to emails pertaining to the replacement application - I had a 6 week window and I know it came back in plenty time - I had thought it was kinda automatic but still had to submit a fair amount of info from memory

Tell me about it. Seemed ridiculous that I need to supply a certified copy of my new passport to the same department that issues to me just a few days earlier! At least there is no charge for the updated card.
