ANZ Frequent Flyer VISA/AMEX - no annual fee first year, bonus 10,000 QFF

There are two Qantas Frequent Flyer cards available. If you read the website, it states:

The card which normally has a $49 pa fee gives you a bonus 10,000 points and an earn rate of AMEX $1:1pt, Visa $4:1pt

The card which normally has a $95 pa fee gives you a bonus 16,000 points and an earn rate of AMEX $1:1, Vias $2:1pt

So who's going to apply for this card, and which one are you applying for...?

I'll be applying, and definitely going for Option One (10k points).
It doesn't make any sense to pay $95 for an extra 6000 points (unless you really need those extra points in a hurry). But 10K for nothing - that's my kind of deal.

All good points you raised there, I guess it really comes down to if one is actually going to use the card, and there is really only a benefit if one really is planning on using the Visa component of the credit card facility... If you applied for the 10k point offer then you may as well cut up the VISA card with a terrible earn rate like that has...

The 16k bonus points offer is not that bad... its about on par with the current NAB Gold Card NAB - Earn Triple Qantas Frequent Flyer points

Applied, approved and self employed...! Big credit limit given too. This after so many applications rejected

And wrong name printed on both cards received today...

Only to be told by the ANZ call center that the name on the card does not really matter anyway....WTF?

Take Two...!

New cards now, these are actually mine since they now have my name on them... :p just need to activate, spend then BINGO 10,000 QFF points

How sweet it is...

Bugger - wish I had of seen this before June 30, a free 10,000 points would have been nice!

I had to send them my tax return and they interviewed my accountant! Self-employed. And they refused to give me the limit I applied for. Could not believe it. Although when it arrived they had doubled the limit they had agreed to, to more than I had wanted. Strange. It's working well.

Self employed like you and no hoop jumping here, never asked for a limit but they gave me heaps...!

I am amazed anyone had any trouble getting this card.

I arrived at a branch to validate my identity, where I found out the card had been issued to a subset of my full name - which was a problem when showing my licence to the teller initially, but after a quick phone call she was happy to have new cards issued to me and activate those in my possession.

I asked why this anomaly didn't turn up during a credit history check - to my amazement she said the branch visit is the only stage that an identity is validated. When I asked about proof of employment or salary, she looked at me rather puzzled - I said I'd supplied no proof so far. This is apparently 'normal'. At no stage did I provide anything except 'name of employer' and '$xx_xx_'. My credit limit offered was 15K.

So, as soon as my bonus points turn up (two completed statements now without them) then I'm cancelling the account and destroying all 4 of the cards - none of which have a name on them that matches any identity document I own! I will post here if/when the bonus points turn up.

I got the impression that if I was still an employee it would have been easy. Lots of points...still happily using the card.

How long did your bonus points take to show up?

The only thing this card/ANZ have going for them in my experience is a simple, low-bandwidth, generally excellent iPhone app.

One quick question, was there a minimum spend required for the bonus points? I have only put through a token $20 odd transaction on the Amex as my 'eligible' spend, this should be fine yea? When I did my ID check at ANZ they did say it may take up to 3 months for the bonus to come through.

Spent over $500 on this card, no points showing up yet... :(
