AMEX not accepted or surcharge

Sorry, my mistake, Telstra do accept Amex but with a fee.

Is that right? The only Telstra services I use are a bunch of pre-paid mobile phones, they get an auto charge monthly and I pay with Amex ... I'm sure there is no surcharge on that ... perhaps landlines/DSL/NBN whatever attract a CC fee?

Right. wow! Enlightening. All other things being equal, I must be paying 0.3% now, and previously 1% but its somehow all invisibly wrapped up in the monthly pre-paid charge ... certainly I have, for many many years now, only been charged the whole dollar amount of the pre-payment, whether thats $30/40/50/100 or whatever it is. I run about 6 pre paid devices and they are all like this.

I suspect the surcharge is a lot more overt for post-pay arrangements then. Luckily, I don't have any other Telstra services ... and am not likely to ever have now that I've seen the list. $2.20 for a paper bill? Who would wear that? My wife does business in China and she gets statements and bills from banks and suppliers to our address over here for nix ... we get royally done over by local business it seems.

Prepaid probably won't have a surcharge on Telstra, those fees are for plans/post paid services. No idea who is silly enough to pay the cv surcharge when PayPal is free, though.

I didnt know amex was linakble to amex for many years to paypal

It wasn't, about 5 years ago. But it was like the second coming on this site when it was suddenly available. Then removed. Then available again.

Went to renew my Post Office Box via the MyPost online portal before the March 30 due date. Australia Post would only accept Visa or MasterCard via that portal (with a big SecurePay logo underneath)... so instead I exited out without payment, went to the general PostBillPay site and manually entered the bill details. Magically AMEX, PayPal and Diners all became available. Problem solved. ;)

But you won't get 50 Velocity points.

i find it very weird that some Local Champion stores/restaurants levy an AMEX surcharge higher than for other credit card providers

Kyle: not concerned as the difference between earning 1.5 points per $1 on my AMEX and earning 0.625/$1 on a different card more than makes up for it.

Yes, this is really maddening. I've complained to Australia Post about it.

They should:
-accept their own payment engine through their billing engine
-mandate acceptance of all their supported cards through both channels

[rant mode one] Why the F, do no private health practitioners take Amex? Seriously, they must have some of the largest margins of any business yet they all, IME, only take MC and Visa. It really gives me the *&%$£!!![/rant mode off]

Ah, I feel better now :).

Medibank did a few years ago, and stopped.

I currently pay NIB with Amex. It's surcharged over a bank account, but at the same level as MasterCard and Visa, IIRC.

**edit**

Sorry, I assumed you meant insurers. If you actually meant providers, then I know some that do but certainly not all.

I wasn't referring to the private health funds. I am talking about practitioners, such as dermatologists, ear, nose & throat specialist, etc.
