AMEX not accepted or surcharge

I've found many specialists don't accept it - agree their fees are quite high - surely they can afford to take it.
Every dentist I've ever had has taken Amex.
Allied health like physio seem to take it - especially the more expensive ones.

This is exactly my point.

I just wish he wouldn't tell me how the skiing was in Aspen this year or the dentist's "conference" voyage to Antarctica on some Russian Ice-Breaker class vessel went whilst he has his hands in my mouth and I can't tell him to get lost.

totally agree - and he's still crying poor i'm sure

At a small cafe in Sydney, fairly sure I was talking to the owner...

Me: Do you take Amex ?
He: No! Costs too much, terrible company charging those rates, they are anti small business.
Me: It's ok, I have a visa.
He: why do we need them (Amex) here anyway?
Me: I get free flights
He: how does that work ?
Me: I get FF pts for each $
He: For real! I should get one!!!

I too hate paying surcharge and I feel like I'm getting ripped offf. Especially some of my utilities charge for visa and Mc payments.

But personally for a $300 bill I'd much rather get a 1% discount paying cash or visa rather than paying full price with no surcharge via amex

funny , found a loophole to avoid surcharges online,it works
, but its a complete waste of time

was paying my sro bill and tried to pay $100 with surcharge but accidentally typed in $1
because
the surcharge is so small the total remains $1, if I pay $100, it becomes $100.40

so hypothetically if I paid $1x100 times, I dont pay a surcharge........... plus about 6 hours of oyour life :)

Did someone say Macro?

I hear you but the convenience of their location is hard to walk away from.

Same here. Our dentist doesn't take Amex, but his surgery is only a few minutes' from home which was an important factor when getting some root canal work done - I wanted to able to get home as quickly and as easily as possible after each of those appointments!

Same with Aldi's 0.5% credit card surcharge. Buy items under $2 individually and never pay a cent extra :)

Hi team! How happy am I...

After YEARS of being annoying and asking every time I am there, the Brisbane German Club has moved with the times and now has AMEX :) There is a 1.25% charge for 'all EFTPOS'. Good news for anyone during cricket or AFL season considering it is opposite the Gabba. I asked about the manager about it when I saw him and he told me it cost them $20,000 to get it all kitted out.

That is not too bad a surcharge and at least it does not just target Amex.

Really? Is that the main bar or just the restaurant? I remember my last visit there - no EFTPOS at all at the bar, and the restaurant had EFTPOS but no AMEX (and no way to pay for drinks via the restaurant).
