(All Sorted) Misled re status credits earned on QF Emirates metal

I had always (clearly wrongfully) believed that the reason why Qantas website flights were more expensive than Emirates (same flights) due to the reasoning that the Qantas website provided Q status credits.

Nope, it's just greed.

Off topic, but related, back in the day when QFi serviced PER, the QF website sometimes offered flights to HKG via SIN, with the PER-SIN sector on QF and the SIN-HKG sector on CX (with a CX flight number).

The QF website, during the booking process, would proudly state you would X points and 45 SC ow (25+20). However it was only after making the booking you found out that the fare class they offered on CX (generally class N) would not earn you any points or SC on the CX sector.

If QF would show the fare classes during the booking process it would make things a bit easier....

Since "simpler and fairer" I've also seen it stated that whichever fare I'm booking will earn 1000 points, when this is no longer the case....

Clearly another enhancement. And simpler and fairer doesn't relate to the customer. ;)

Another question - how important is an incorrect title - I somehow selected Mr instead of Mrs. Have been involved in a complex discussion with Qantas that this somehow means I will need to cancel and rebook. Given Title, when you can have Ms or Mrs doesnt appear to be the least bit important but it seems to be a show stopper right now.

It shouldn't matter but might be worth a call to ask. When I wanted a title changed they tried to insist it would require reticketing and therefore $$$. Eventually got someone to change it for free as the title should have been automatically pulled from my QFF account rather than guessed.

I used their new chat function, asking about seat selection, and casually mentioning the Mr instead of Mrs. An hour later, the chat person called me and said they had split the booking, needed to contact Emirates about my rebooking and keeping the same payment amount as fares had increased by $1000 since I booked THIS MORNING!

Might just call again....

Called again - they can see what is happening and said Emirates isn't a simple process to amend details...

There are so many feature changes and policy changes that it is hard to keep up with them.

Oh, oops. I hate when things like that happen! Is this for the next trip or the one next year? Have you thought of donning a moustache and talking in a deep voice???

Just your luck that they say it is not easy to fix. Hope it gets sorted for you.

So, I booked a Business Class Saver fare on the Qantas website. And searched for the difference in the classes of Bookings and all the conditions etc.

http://www.qantas.com.au/regions/amadeus/minirules/AUASSALE_SUMMARY/

According to this, booking this fare means that status credit points should be earned, as there is no mention of exclusion due to flying on Emirates metal. This is no mention of "conditions apply" for status credits, however it does state "conditions apply" to upgrade via points.

Greed?? A human emotion. Are you suggesting that ¨greed´is a corporate reality that has been instilled within QF? I believe that the flights involved here are international. Can you please explain to me how you beleive that the actions of a unit that is LOSS-MAKING are driven by ¨greed¨??!!

Those two concepts are not mutually exclusive. You can be greedy and bankrupt.

The SC earning table will be your undoing, as it is fairly clear that an EK flight number will earn you points only.

The link is a list of terms and conditions. That's what people are referred to in a booking.

A friend recently booked a trip BNE-MAD via DXB. She selected the QF codeshare to DXB and then the EK flight number (A QF codeshare was available) to MAD. Same for the return She was showing me the itinerary and I pointed out the SC issue for the DXB-MAD leg, as well as the fact that as a QC member there would be no access to the lounge in DXB before the MAD flight. She attempted to change to the same flights with a QF number, over the phone, but as expected Qantas wanted the change fee (in this case it was not worth it - my friend would have pleaded ignorance to the recent 'enhancement' regarding lounge access on arrival in DXB!).

As it turned out (a week or so later), she needed to change the return date anyway, so in doing so changed all the flights to QF codes (same price as EK in this case).

It is frustrating that the rules have to be so variable and complex - but without that complexity, what would there be for us to discuss!!!

Struggling to use your Frequent Flyer Points?

Frequent Flyer Concierge takes the hard work out of finding award availability and redeeming your frequent flyer or credit card points for flights.

Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, the Frequent Flyer Concierge team at Frequent Flyer Concierge will help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If you have a booking with a QF flight number but operated by EK (i.e. QF8xx_) then you will get SC

Just make sure the boarding pass has a QF flight number on it as well, and keep the boarding pass.

The checkin will be managed by EK
The lounge will be EK lounge

The plane is EK

Only difference is that your boarding pass will have EK flight number and QF flight number.

Without the QF flight number no SC only points.

As with any codeshare,

Checkin is managed by the operating airlines checkin desk and luggage allowances are the operating airlines rules.

You must have a QF flight number on EK metal to earn QF SCs.

Oh, thankyou! I just managed to change the flights - to exactly the same details but this is what I see -

QF8419 Sydney to Bangkok

QF8418 Bangkok to Sydney

I'm all good now I think?

Thankyou for this story as I was able to change for FREE! 320 status credits plus 50% bonus. Might just go celebrate as MrP is on a plane to Hobart and I am home alone.

Agree wholeheartedly. Companies give such varied reasons to 'explain' why pricing is different - like currency conversion rates, extra protection (yeah right) in Australia. A look at the cruise lines will show you they have taken this to new heights/depths. It is greed - a view that they will charge as much as they can (what the market will bear) for any given product (in this case, seat on plane). Tie it up with enough T&C clauses and 'Bob's your uncle" as they say.

Well done - so you changed the flights from what you had originally booked so that you could get a QF code share? Good move!
Break out the bubbly!

The search engine is a funny thing. If you search using one method you get very few options but I changed the way I search and up they popped.

Ok, that get's MrP to requal platinum in time. Now, I am only going to be 100 status credit points behind gold......And so begins a status run. Maybe. :p

My QP membership is due at end of January so I have to use the 1.5 status credit offer. Where can I go?
