All Qantaslink flights to depart SYD T3 from August 15th 2013

That's what Sydney has at gate 17 for the Canberra flights, and your right it just stays like that.

Maybe they need a poly tunnel they can pull out to the stairs of the aircraft after the props have stopped turning

But being bussed doesn't worry me too much, though never done the walk when it's been raining hard thankfully!

You quite often see some parked there on weekends in particular.

No hangers have gone, you used to see aircraft parked there in association with the rb211 shop now closed.

The dash workshop is at the end of the taxiway that leads in from the QF terminal, used to have packers DC8 parked out the front of it.

Plus, if QF intend to extend their Q400 fleet/network, they can't fit any more than 5 there... how will they ever find space for more of them?

That area of tarmac behind Gates 1-9 and bounded by the other hangars is going to be crazy with traffic. Not to mention the buses that need to go to the turboprop area that also competes with traffic with the turboprops moving back and forth.

Additional bays would be further up the taxiway, maybe 9 in total which is more than they would need given they still have the other area as well.

It wont be that bad - the international transfer buses are going to depart from the other end of the terminal.

As for the PAX Buses, I can see them doing a hard right on leaving the parking bay and then heading left to travel North along the Building line.

The buses would just travel on the lanes already in place and visible from the satellite photos, no need for a change.

Maybe yes, maybe no - my thoughts would keep taxiing craft and the busses apart - see here: (Don;t worry about the grpahic too much, I'd expect the craft to stop at more of an angle)

That is more or less to the right and behind your photo. My point was on weekends the exact area in the photo often has a couple of dash-8's parked up.

Qantaslink used to park up near the pond. In the area in the picture below where the BA 747 and 777's are parked. They had a staff hut on the bit between the parking area and the internal road.

Somewhere in these posts, it's been mentioned T2 to T3 move will be end of April. Is there a firmer date?

Yesterday arvo there were about ten QF corporate staff observing procedure, queues and passenger movements at Gate 1 whilst we were boarding QF536 SYD-BNE.

Only one boarding pass scanner was in use - this was deliberate as there were about four QF staff standing at the other machine and when priority pax walked up, they were directed to the other machine.

The whole thing was being timed, but I don't think you can compare a chockers (there wasn't a spare seat) 734 and a Q400 elapsed boarding time.

It got me thinking though... maybe they are converting Gate 1 into the boarding gate for Qantaslink flights as opposed to the international transfer?

Wow, I'm very, very, very disappointed with this decision. I like T2 as it has free wifi, so that after disembarking from my international flight I could sit the wait for my regional flight home with a couple of beers and a browse. Now I face having to spend up to four hours in boring T3.

T3 has free WiFi as well, and if you check the lounge thread you have a better chance of getting guested into a lounge for a free beer!

How long since you've been to T3?

I was there both mid July and early December and free wifi was not available either time.

I checked the Sydney airport website before posting and it said only T1 and T2 had free wifi.

Thanks for the responses folks, good to know it won't be so bad waiting but I'm guessing it will be very cramped as there have been times where they'd had to have three planes depart at the same time at the same gate in T2!

I think that will be because Sydney Airports Corporation (much to their chagrin, no doubt) doesn't own T3. So information on the website about T3 is pretty patchy. For example, they don't even provide a map of T3.

Received some emails today re slight change of flight times for some afternoon Qantaslink flights SYD-PQQ from the beginning of next week. I wondered if they were tweaking the timetable to accommodate the change to T3. Won't make much difference with this flight 1540 as it tends to get get caught up in some congestion and tends to leave closer to 1600 anyway. New time is 1605. The eticket still refers to T2 though even for flights in June.
