Qantas link flights will soon be boarding from Gate 1 in T3 with buses to the hardstand parks near the hangers, meaning T2 will no longer have any Qantas flights, not certain if the T2 QP will remain, I expect not.

I couldn't imagine that SACL would be giving QF cheap gates and rent for T2!

IMHO I think it would be sensible to have ALL QF domestic services ex-SYD depart from the one terminal. So this comes as welcome news! :)

Would love to know how many Qantas Frequent Flyer's that use Jetstar would reconsider their membership and jump ship (to anyone but the Qantas Group) if the QP there closed. I don't know anything, I just think part of a 2-brand strategy is looking after customers between both brands.

I looked for the media release on this but couldn't find it.

Edit to add, also wouldn't using gate 1 be the least practical solution? I don't know how many QFLink flights they have per day, but BNE has 5 gates for their operations. And looking at the terminal layout, gate 1 is the furthest away too. Gates 16/17 would make more sense (I say without knowing what these gates are like or what the infrastructure is).

No doubt the JQ flyers will complain if the QF Club closed it's doors though!

Standby for a new round of lounge overcrowding issues. It now being two years since Platinums lost their anytime access, I wonder which benefit is next on the chopping block.

Looking at what we have left, arrivals access would be the logical next step on the chopping block. If so, I don't see the point in striving for Platinum, as that's my most used benefit... a quick refresh before heading home!

But you do raise an interesting point, I don't know what the capacity of the lounge is, or the average daily figures, but they've all got to go somewhere. Time to extend the T3 facilities perhaps.

I thought the T2 QP was tiny - about the size of the first version of the BNE J lounge - so not that much to absorb.

Maybe this will free up gates for Tiger to use on that pier at T2, and clear the way for VA to have their dedicated pier, without Tiger taking up gates over there.

The other thing which will require work (at a signifigant cost at either end I would imagine) will be the arriving pax from airports that dont have appropriate security. they will need to arrive underneath directly to the baggage claim outside the secure zone. Does that make sense? Perhaps some substatial construction including new lounges?

:p Great news! As a regular regional traveller I dread T2 - looks like VA will lose more flights from me now as I used to use them primarily for their curbside lounge check in

(unless of course the alternative is only JQ) ....

There's already the bus setup at gate 1 for Int. transfers.

So I suppose it's not a great change to use / adapt the bays for QLink.

Moreover I am guessing Markis10 was referring to the aprons to the NE of gate 1.

Gate 1 has a large classroom which is being redeveloped for the QF link waiting area I believe, and yes the aprons will be where the current handstand area is NE near Qantas drive, with the demise of the RB211 shop there is considerable freed up space now that there are fewer jets undergoing work.

+1. I hate the QP at T2 and always have an angry lounge dragon every time I enter.

Well my initial thoughts are mixed. I use T2 Qantaslink to fly home to PQQ. Currently it is much easier for our mates to drop us off at T2 & the quick pickup area has been working well after the initial hassles (maybe no different under new arrangements). The current checkin/bagdrop are extremely quick & simple, much easier than Virgin. Haven't been in the QP in T2 for a while & the food was never anything special. In T2 QP have never had to wait for a shower & toilet facilities have been fine.

Sounds like a sensible move to be honest.

My preference is to fly out of T3 anyway.
