Airports which are absurdly close to the city

Love the outdoor cinemas in Broome which are underneath the approach. Can watch a movie and plane spot at the same time. Two shows for the price of one.

EWR to down town Newark, approx 3 miles.

Cairns Airport is pretty close to its city centre. I've learned that people actually walk between the airport and CBD! This is despite much of the route not necessarily being pedestrian friendly.

It depends when they walked. Pre COVID and shortly after there was a reasonable walkway with placards at points of interest etc. .

The walkway seems to have been basically let go in the last year or two.

Google tells me Osaka Itami airport is 20 kms north of downtown Osaka. Compared to KIX, 40 kms south of the city, that seems relatively close.

Well it’s close to the strip, but it’s not especially close to the city (downtown). About 15Km.

Santos Dumont Airport (SDU) next to downtown Rio De Janeiro!

Yes! You walk out of the terminal doors and, hello, downtown Rio de Janeiro. The approach over Guanabara Bay gives you amazing views of the city and the Sugarloaf.

I’ve just been to Frankfurt. 15 minutes from the airport to the central train station on the S-Bahn.

IE: lovely stinking humidity, wetlands odour, no footpath and crocs checking pedex visas.

I think the 'strip' has grown to meet the airport.
