Airports which are absurdly close to the city

Cairns Airport is pretty close to its city centre. I've learned that people actually walk between the airport and CBD! This is despite much of the route not necessarily being pedestrian friendly.

Shame even that Reddit post isn't high quality.

While not a big city GIB has to be up there, even if to the northern edge
I suppose one could argue a huge number of regional airports would be "absurdly close" to their city/town centres.

MNL is funny, because from the City of Manila itself to MNL (i.e. NAIA), yeah it's geographically close. But thanks to Manila's infamous traffic, it takes horribly long (even if you use the skyways). NAIA straddles two of Metro Manila's cities: Pasay and Paranaque. Although they don't compare in population to the main city of Manila, those two cities themselves are not small population-wise.

Came across this - not perfect, but pretty cool nonetheless.

Well there you go - Cairo airport is closer to downtown than Melbourne - and some of the drivers on the Tulla freeway drive like they are in Cairo too.

Have experienced the pain of travelling to and from TFU - another one in China that seems ridiculously far out is YNT - its like they got Stevie Wonder to throw a dart at a map to decide where they would build the airport.

Having travelled to both Cairo’s 2 lanes exit (23 million) probably takes the cake over Melbs 6 lanes (6.5 million)

The old HKG (Kai Tak) was pretty close…
Was just about to post this too. My professor used a model with a light fixed to a toy plane to demonstrate the noise illumination and shadow zones (and the buildings affected by it). I recall seeing some pretty cool images of jumbos flying between the high rises.

It was pretty spectacular from a plane also!

Danang and SGN in Vietnam, as opposed to Hanoi.
The new Siem Reap airport (Cambodia) is waaaay outside town unlike the old airport which was a tuk-tuk ride away. When we were there people were taking tuk-tuks to the new airport and discovering it was a two hour ride in the heat!
