As a Melbourne resident, the experience of landing at an airport close to the city always amuses me (in a way that Sydneysiders might not understand). Here are some I've been to recently:
Fukuoka, Japan:
This airport should probably win some kind of award for insane convenience.
Just 2 subway stations from the CBD (Hakata station) and that ride costs around $2. You could probably walk it if you were in the mood and travelling light.
Also, you can literally walk out the front entrance of the terminal, cross the street, and you are in a normal Fukuoka neighbourhood.
Tokyo (Haneda):
Just 1 stop (3 minutes) on the regular train line and you are in a residential suburb of Tokyo. The ride to Shinagawa - I'm considering that as the edge of the CBD - is 11 minutes (that's just a normal commuter train; not something high speed).
Macau:
Just a few minutes from the Casino area by the LRT (some kind of monorail type train). I think the Macau LRT is a really well thought-out piece of infrastructure but it seems under-utilised.
Any other airports people have been that are ridiculously close to civilisation?
