AirAsiaX Delays/Cancellations

Since moving to AVV on 5 December 2019, the D7 flights to and from KUL have been mostly punctual.

Thursday 7 March 2019 is an exception, with A333 9M-XXD on D7216, the scheduled 1035 hours KUL - AVV that was in the sky at 1138 likely to arrive at 2208, 38 late.

D7217, the return redeye due off blocks at 2245 should be able to push back from around 2330 hours.

On Saturday 23 March, the overnight KUL - AVV (D7218 operated by A333 9M-XXG) is arriving half an hour late at 0950 hours. Generally this flight has had good timekeeping either previously at MEL or now at AVV. Load factors up to January remained good, but as always there's a lag in reporting these.

D7223, the Sunday 7 April 2019 scheduled 1100 hours late morning SYD - KUL has A333 (as usual) 9M-XXW, having taken off at 1219 hours. Arrival should be at 1826, 31 late.

On Thursday 30 May 2019, D7219, the 0935 hours MEL - KUL (A333 9M-XXH) took off at 1103 hours so arrival should be at 1714, 69 late. This was because D7218 from KUL overnight to AVV arrived 64 late at 0924 hours.

D7219, the 0935 hours morning Sunday 16 June 2019 AVV to KUL (A333 9M-XXC) took off at 1022 with arrival suggested at 1636, 31 late.

On Sunday 23 June 2019, D7219 (0935 hours morning flight MEL - KUL) took off at a very late 1312 hours with A333 9M-XXW. Arrival should be at 1909 hours tonight, 184 minutes behind the timetable.

A333 9M-XXV on D7218, the 2220 hours Sunday 23 June 2019 KUL down to MEL did not become airborne until 0015 hours on Monday 24. Arrival is showing as a nominal 0937 hours, 77 late but as at 0730 hours, AVV was fog bound by the looks of things so it's possible this D7 flight may have to divert to MEL if it's still available.

UPDATE: D7218 arrived at 1025, 125 late. D7219 from AVV back to KUL had not departed by 1215 hours.

The badly delayed D7219 on Monday 24 June was in the sky from AVV at 1230 hours with KUL arrival predicted as 1843 hours, 158 minutes tardy.

The 1100 hours late morning SYD - KUL (D7223) took off at 1234 with arrival at 1912 hours, 77 late the forecast.

For the third consecutive day, the KUL - AVV redeye D7218 is delayed, with A333 9M-XXF taking off on Tuesday 25 June at 0034, meaning arrival at 0956, 96 late.

The KUL - MEL D7218 was up until earlier this week often early or punctual, but the last few days have been the opposite. On Wednesday 26 June, A333 9M-XXP should arrive at 0952 hours, 92 late. With humidity at 100 per cent and calm (no wind), AVV has some of the preconditions for fog but JQ602 this morning (0600 hours AVV - SYD) managed to depart so the airport may not be fog bound.

Sunday 30 June sees D7201 from OOL to KUL, the 1035 hours, airborne at 1159 with A333 9M-XXD. Arrival should be at 1829, 74 late.

Fog at AVV on the morning of Friday 5 July 2019 saw JQ602 depart 100 minutes late at 0740.

D7218, the KUL - AVV redeye (A333 9M-XXG) is due into AVV at 0820 hours and was running early but has been in a holding pattern above Bendigo for many minutes as at 0830 hours.

It is nominally showing an on ramp arrival of 0851 but if the fog doesn't clear, that may be later, or it may have to divert to the probably not very welcoming (given D7 transferred to AVV) MEL airport. Still, the latter will take Mr Fenrnadez' cold hard cash one presumes.

UPDATE: After wasting more fuel holding, D7218 arrived AVV at 0914, 54 minutes behind schedule. The return flight will be tardy.

D7220 KUL-SYD (A333 9M-XXJ) has a revised arrival at 21 33, 123 tardy. It will be a tight turnaround for the return leg as D7221 SYD-KUL, scheduled for 22 07, which seems pretty unlikely to happen.

As they are the only international departure, they won’t have any ground delays.

IIRC, jb747 once helpfully pointed out that the key is obtaining ATC permission to taxi before 2245 hours as the Sydney Airports legislation then allows any time of the night takeoff. This should be to the south to minimise the ANEF exposure (noise contours.)

Does Avalon even have departure slots for an international departure? Don’t see why they’d be necessary.

How would a D7 flight to/from AVV integrate with the other flights on the air routes to Asia?

All you need for that is a flight plan. Slots relate to congestion, so, in Oz, normally to fitting in to the departures, and more importantly arrivals, at the major airports. In very congested airspace (i.e. the Afghan routes) as slot may also be required, but it's more of a planning thing...you don't actually have to hit the time. Airspace between Avalon and SE Asia isn't particularly busy.
