Congratulations Lindsay.

A couple of days ago it looked like our predictions of the 23rd were right out of the running.

Amazing how quickly things change.

Sorry JohnK, what I meant was have a look at post # 300 prior to your post #301 where we submitted within the same 1 minute of each other.

I believe that Kiwi Flyer's post (#295) on this thread was the 70,000th post because mine made it 1 to go, and Kiwi Flyers should have been the 70,000th however you may have more access to have a more exact time.

I have checked it a few times now and I believe I have the correct post. You will notice that there are 2 posts with 5:46pm (AEST) and one with 5:47pm (AEST). He posted in another thread before you posted the 70,000th!

69,999th post!
70,000th post!
70,001th post!

Also this post is the 70,024th post and is actual post # 127,718 and if I subtract 24 posts I get back to your actual post # 127,694.

Note to get the actual post # just hover your mouse over the post # just before the permalink on the top right of each post.

Well JohnK I pity anyone who ever tries to accuse you of not being committed to accuracy.

And finally doesn't post #127694 look stupid stating only 1 to go and it was the actual.

I like numbers and analysing. May explain why I work as a computer analyst/programmer.

Not at all. There was so much happening around that time and you weren't to know that someone else was posting at exactly the same time. You can go back and edit that post anyway....

I had thought of that, but defeats the purpose doesn't it.

Anyway isn't it time to run the AFF 80,000th post competition now. Imagine Kiwi Flyer will have 14000 posts by then:p

While I feel it's ok to post to one content inoffensively in "The Playground" there have been deliberate multi posts in other areas of AFF that basically do nothing more than make it harder for people to get advice and assistance, having to scan through the fluff.

I am happy to have a bit of a joke and some fun & have been involved in some multi posting episodes in the past here, but never in such a concerted hour effort over many hours.

But today was ridiculous. Unfortunately, the rubbish that has gone on in relation to deliberate post padding has has really made me think about continuing to contribute to this forum. :(

Actually, I'll call ime winning almost a calculated guess...like JohnK, I used mathematics to ascertain when I thought it would be, given the average number of posts per day. So we really kept to a pretty static level of posts in the intervening days.

Those going to ozfest IV can congratulate me in person over a beer.

Sorry Reggie but I like to have fun as much as the next person but what has happened in the last few days was not fun at all. It was blatant post padding and not only in this thread. I have been an advocate of these contests in the past and although the number of contests has reduced in recent times I will seriously reconsider starting one, or participating for that matter, again in the future.

IMO, There is no possible way you could have worked that date & time out on an average posts per day basis.

And as for a "Static level of posts"? Are you in Election Mode?

Here are true figures:
Code:
Date/Time Post Count Posts per day rate
                               (pro-rata)

2/05/2007 11:34 66,319
3/05/2007 8:52 66,531 238.87
3/05/2007 16:29 66,603 226.87
9/05/2007 22:00 67,613 162.12
10/05/2007 14:21 67,714 148.26
11/05/2007 9:35 67,839 155.98
13/05/2007 10:14 68,134 145.53
14/05/2007 11:06 68,257 118.71
15/05/2007 10:44 68,417 162.48
15/05/2007 16:34 68,500 341.49
16/05/2007 13:50 68,683 206.52
17/05/2007 10:47 68,835 174.13
18/05/2007 9:47 69,008 180.52
21/05/2007 10:08 69,334 108.14
22/05/2007 10:13 69,557 222.23
23/05/2007 11:22 69,819 250.02
23/05/2007 17:46 70,000 678.75
I'll have that beer anyway ...

I have not done the figures, but have always believe that there is not a constant number of posts per day. Some days its up, some days its down. To be fair, not often as up as yesterday. While having sympathy for some of the comments here, I also give leeway to those that have been valued contributors to the board, and were obviously letting their hair down, so to speak.

AFF ticked over to 60,000 posts on 6 March 2007 early am and ticked over to 70,000 posts yesterday afternoon. That is an posting average rate of ~128 posts/day. For the 10 days prior to contest closing the posting rate was ~158 posts/day. For the 10 days after the contest closed and yesterdays milestone the posting rate was ~180 posts/day.

For the 3 days prior to yesterdays milestone the posting rate increased to 250 posts/day. There was still 552 posts to go late at night on 21 May and around 320 posts to go late at night on 22 May. So there was close to 400 posts yesterday alone with 320 happening by 5:46pm!

You be the judge.

Not really wanting to get drawn into a lengthy debate about this, but I think you will find that normal programming has resumed.

For one, I am sorry that the events of the past few days have upset serfty. I, along with others who have previously posted so, appreciate the wealth of information and opinion serfty chooses to share on AFF.

I would imagine running a forum like this is a thankless task. Each poster has a unique identity & reasons for being here. For some I guess it is more social, and for others simply a resource. If we all thought the same way, and wanted the same things, what a boring place AFF would be!

Personally I think the exuberance and passion, in the communication on AFF, over the last few days, has been different and fun. I guess we all go through cycles from wind down to wound up, so a truly representative forum should probably do the same. J

I am thankful that AFF is more than just a repository of facts and data; I like the online human flavour it has. And I appreciate, that due of this, it’s okay to sometimes ask a question that has been asked before, if a search has not revealed the answers to your particular question, rather just a bit of banter.

Can I also say that I appreciate Kiwi Flyer’s, NM’s & JohnK’s contributions, amongst others. I can emphatically say that - I have been entertained, informed, inspired & annoyed by their various postings… long may it continue!

And to everyone else, thanks to you too! J Long may we ALL post together about the common interest we ALL have in air travel!
