Awww .. sorry ps .. I was just joshing ….thats why it was an edit in italics.......

If the group is small , and there is no formality in terms of tasting etc , I'm sure the little taverna will be fine if that's what the group decides.

The barrel room is a very large area in the winery building , it's a very nice area (unless you have to drink their wine ) ….but I am sure we need to grow the group for quite a little bit to make it work.

Sirromet is quite large and they have many areas ,some quite suitable but it's waaaaaay out in the boonies.

Barrel Hall Reception 4 - Sirromet

Sirromet is beautiful place and they make good pizza but they are far from city and their wines are horrible.

It looks a tiny little place, hard to see enough room for a herd of wino's with all their baggage…

How many starters are there for the suggested 25th Thu ( quieter) or 26th frantic friday ?

We could book the barrel room at Sirromet, suits me , just round the corner .. :)
Great atmosphere but they might not appreciate us bringing our own plonk.. they suffer this delusion that they sell drinkable wine…… :)

It is a great venue, a pity about the wine. It is also just around the corner from me.
I agree, they will almost certainly have no sense of humour when it comes

In the interests of making things work , I am up for the Thursday (25th) option. I agree that it might be quieter than Happy Hour Friday .
I'm sure we can come up with a central venue that works for everyon

Thursday 25 May works for me; find a location that is near Brisbane it doesn't have to be CBD.

Went to a place last Thursday that was a Thai place that had a good range of beers and BYO wine for $2.50 Chili Coco.

Usually most Asian food places allow BYO wine, some charge more than others.

Is it just me, or is looking to visit an Asian restaurant, and eating food with potentially powerful flavours not usually associated with drinking wine, just a little counter productive?
i know I would be more likely to bring one of my Virgin Wines quaffers if that were the case.

Agree. As much as I love Asian food, it's not the most suitable for good red pairing. I do have some nice Rieslings at home that can go well with those flavours.

Ok, it would appear we have the following showing interest ;
Viridianne, QF WP, GPH (me) TGH, Boomy, Bundy Bear, the director, steady (he may be a bit far away for this one), Wozza (depending on his being able to be in town), Major, Paulcut, samh004 , and Puppysparkes.
next we need to settle on a date, as far as I can see a Thursday is looking good the 25th?
as for venue, Asian is out I reckon, mainly due to strong flavours that would hinder tasting the reds.
the Greek option sounds good, so can we have a show of hands indicating preference for date, venue , and likelihood of attendance .
I reckon we need a group of four to make it worthwhile?

I shall kick off.
I like the 25th, I am happy with the suggestion of the Greek place, I am equally happy with some place that does a reasonable steak.
from the 25th onward, I am fairly open to other dates, if the 25th doesn't work for everyone, so I am gold firming to platinum depending on what works for everyone else.

25th works for me, as does a nice red with Greek food.

'Onya GPH… I'm in… Greek or Steak.. I'm cheap and easy…

We used to haunt the Morrison and have had some great feeds on the way to the forum for the gladiator show ( brisbane lions in recent years… :-( )
I we get a large group of carnivores there a plenty of places for a steak...

Sadly, I'm out for this first gathering. But Sydney has sent a much nicer option anyway! Enjoy, Viridianne.

Just a suggestion. If you are 6-10, then maybe 2/3 of you volunteer to bring the wine this time. If you all bring one, then you are going to have a good night. But a very bad next day!

Hopefully I can make future gatherings.

Have fun. And look forward to seeing the pictures ...

Cheers, Wozza

If it's a lunch, then I can make 25th, but no chance of 25th at night for me - Thursday is my sons AFL training night and I have to take him. Enjoy everybody

Yes, Viridianne did express a desire to come to this - probably because she had so much fun at the GC one on the weekend.

No pictures, it didn't happen.

Lunch sounds like a plan, might NOT be as busy as the evening?

You obviously haven't been to any of the MEL dinners where each brings a bottle but still we somehow end up buying more because they evaporate so quickly ;)
