Sorry to intrude in the thread. Just to throw a restaurant suggestion out that is a byo on a Friday night. La bomba in seven hills is a nice tapas place.

Yes, I know the Purpke Olive, opposite the Queens Arms - up from where I used to work in Robertson Street.

Not many good BYO restaurants in the CBD (apart from some Asian places). Only decent one I know is Public which offer BYO but only on Tuesdays.

The Purple Olive in James St offers BYO on weekdays.

I'll be overseas most of next month so both 12th and 19th will not work for me. June looks much better.

Isn't the purple olive closed. I thought I read they were closing for good.

I went to this great restaurant in West End last year and the food was terrific. Their BBQ octopus was just yummo

https://www.littlegreektaverna.com.au/

It's BYO wine and beer and they charge $2.50 corkage per head.

According to their facebook page Friday night is a big deal and very popular

Has anyone else been there and would West End be a suitable area ?

I love BBQ octopus

Indeed, you appear to be correct: Italian Restaurant Brisbane + http://www.couriermail.com.au/lifes...e/news-story/c3af90d0465415c90b521e74a522e5aa

The venue has been bought by long-time hospitality worker Wayne Stringer, who has opened a Maltese restaurant in its place.

and

But Mr Theresine insists the closure won’t mean the end of The Purple Olive. He is currently working on a cookbook featuring some of the restaurant’s most popular dishes, like their duck gnocchi and beef cheeks, as well as dishes he cooks at home for his family. And says in two years the couple may open another version of The Purple Olive in a new location. “We’ll have a bit of a break, spend some time with the kids and get the book out and see where things take us,” he said.

I'm happy to change to a Friday night, if that's going to suit more people. It isn't difficult to get to West End and I love BBQ baby octopus.

I'm guessing the best way forward is to choose a specific day of the month Eg second Friday at x time and Y location. we cant all make it every time, but eventually I guess we will all eventually manage to work it into our routine?
I know for example I wont be able to make it to the first one.
I am interested in the learning and understanding side of appreciating these wines, so hopefully there are a few amateur tasting experts in the group. :)

As a Brisbane resident , I am following this thread with interest and a little sadness.
I have posted regularly on the 'fo thread almost from the beginning and have managed to find some great wines with the group input curating the 'Fo hype.
Some may wonder at my lack of a response to this thread so here 'tis… :)

My developing geriatricity and a serious concern about both the quality of my taste buds and the ability to find anything exciting in my 'frig to contribute… makes me inclined to pass.
I read about the get togethers in the other states and am amazed at the quantity and quality in aff cellars.

It's actually a bit sad to face the reality of ageing , my hearing is cactus and I'm functionally mute in "pub" noise even with the best tech I can buy.
Hope you all manage a great get together...

tgh, I beg you to reconsider. These meet ups are not about who can bring the most expensive wine - they are about getting together with others who have similar interests. There are some very generous and high income members but that is not a prerequisite.

I get a lot out of the offline real world AFF and I know you can as well. I have met a number of members who have posted interest in this thread, and I know you will be welcomed and will have a good time

Absolutely agree

Remember the only good wine is one you enjoy. Doesn't matter if it was made yesterday or 50 years ago. Doesn't matter if it was free or it cost you heaps.

The only thing that matters is if you are enjoying the wine. Drinking it with good company is a bonus.

We are good company.

Uh , er …. gee ..er….that didn't turn out as expected…hmmmm…..

First , thank you all for your firm and welcoming positivity, it is much appreciated.

I guess I'm in… ( what else could I say .. :) )

I am south east, happy to go anywhere , but the ambient noise level will limit any functionality.

Other than sudden commitments nearly anytime suits atm

I manage to fly a bit but I don't have a car. As long as there is a bit of notice on the location and it's accessible by public transport, I'm all in. I'm no wine expert but I like drinking it.

There was a couple of no shows at the OOL BBQ today! Shame on you :p
I'll be at Brisbane on 25-26 May if we can make it work for another AFF wine dinner?

It's an excellent venue with great food at very reasonable prices. I used to live around the corner and we regularly dined there. A booking is the best bet. I'm on their booking system and will be happy to make the arrangements. It is accessible by public transport. The 199 stop right out the front and glider (60) stops on Mollison st.

It looks a tiny little place, hard to see enough room for a herd of wino's with all their baggage…

How many starters are there for the suggested 25th Thu ( quieter) or 26th frantic friday ?

We could book the barrel room at Sirromet, suits me , just round the corner .. :)
Great atmosphere but they might not appreciate us bringing our own plonk.. they suffer this delusion that they sell drinkable wine…… :)
