AFF 3 day outage (April 2021)

Try ServerIntellect, Dreamhost or Siteground and maybe consider distributed cloud servers such as Azure.
Rather than being tied to a physical server, is moving to a cloud option like AWS, Azure etc not a better option?
I suppose it depends on needs really. Also very much a case of you get what you pay for, as has played out here.
Well, AFF could do all these, if more people donate. Just saying. 😏

Kudos must go to @Admin. We're fortunate to also have a number of Moderators in IT, so that would have been handy if a sounding board was necessary. It's akin to a plane breaking down and waiting in the Lounge for the engineers to assess and fix - finally we're back in the air. The corollary is that Admin is now much better schooled in disaster management (not that he wanted to be).
Has there been a change in the mods recently? ;)

On a more serious note, has anyone noticed performance issues in the last day or so? Sometimes I go to 'like' a post and it will try, try, try ..... then time out, then I have to do it again. Sometimes when I post also, it takes up to a minute to actually save that post and then load the page.

Not to my knowledge

Not noticed any performance issues at all - probably all those kids in lockdown draining the bandwidth watching movie ;)

Not that bad here, but earlier today pages were taking 10-20 seconds to load when they would usually take 2-3 on this connection (and no differences on other sites).

I sometimes get a page asking me to confirm that I actually wanted to like a post.

However we are not getting email notifications anymore since change.

And my usual method of posting photos doesn't work any more. But already worked out another way.

Getting this semi-regularly too. Not sure if they have moved host yet though, I read it as they were back up and running on the old one and are planning to move to the new? In any case, that's the 2nd DC this year I've had experience with that had a DC fire that took things out, the other was OVH in France.

Yes the new server is very slow with images. :(

Something is definitely wrong with the new server settings or performance or cloudflare cache. For example, this post

takes 15 seconds to show the image on our 300Mb link.

We are still on the same server - planning to move early next week. I know there was a brief (11 minutes) outage a few hours ago, which might explain the error message some of you got. As far as I know, thats been the only outage since we came back a few days ago.

I have no explanation for reports that some members aren't receiving notifications for watched threads. I'm getting them as are other members. But will keep an eye out.

We have made some changes to caching parameters over the last few days, which might explain some of issues some people are reporting. Will do a comprehensive investigation later next week once we have moved to the new server.

FYI at 6pm tonight, site seems to be back to normal and images load quickly as one would expect.

Slow here on images, but likely due to the CDN/caching stuff they're playing with at the moment.
