Maybe you should ask this guy along

He is a freak! No idea where all those cards came from???
I played the video frame by frame, and he seems to pull the cards from various pockets in his 2-3 layered suit, and some cards seem to fall out from his sleeves but at normal speed it looks incredible.

Thanks to an idea from Lindsay Wilson over in the Playground, I'm proposing the 'First Annual AFF Poker Tournament' to take place in the first quarter of 2012.

Anyone interested? It'll most likely be a tournament style, no-limit holdem event, hosted at my place (pending housemate approval and dates).

This came about for a) my love of the game and b) I love having an excuse to have a poker night. I can also help with the dealing if people just want to play (although even if I do deal, i'm going to be playing as well, so, look out!).

Proposal is to charge everyone say $20-30 or so, and split the money up between the winners. If people want a trophy, perhaps we can take some cash out of the pool to fund a prize (or perhaps some kind of FF related paraphernalia bought or donated?).

Thoughts welcome before anything is firmed up. This would take place on a Saturday evening at a guess, allowing any out-of-staters to jet in for the evenings competition.

I'd be interested!

OK so looks like there's plenty of interest! I'll attempt to firm up some dates in the next month or so and post some arrangements on here. May consult my second employer for possible loan of a second table. Anyone else here know how to deal poker on a oval shaped table (proper pitching etc)?

Love to attend! Count me in. I work a continuously rotating roster, so any time is as good as any other for me.

Happy to buy in at $30, $50, or $150, whatever the house decides!

I'm in! I have 1500 poker chips and plastic caddies I bought yonks ago I haven't used in ages if you need any extras for satellites etc. I do not have a poker table though.

Also up for a trial run for those who are interested. Can volunteer my place in the CBD as a location for this but I can only really accommodate a max of 8-10 people before I run out of chairs and space.

Drewbles can accommodate 8-10 people in his bathroom.:D

Sounds interesting here - although would depend on timing, and whether my thesis has not sent me to a grave yet.

Count me in for now.

Thanks mike. I have a 1500, a 1000 and a 300 piece set, so we're not short of chips. I have a second job working for a company that does Casino games and Pub Poker as well, so I have no shortage of access to chips. May even be able to borrow some tables for the event if required.

Still haven't gotten around to firming up details. I will work on that as soon as my day job commitments are known (I may be away for a lot of Jan/Feb in Europe, so need to sure that up first before arranging times/dates; should be known by early November though!).

Yes, but fitting a poker table in there may be another thing (You should have seen my old bathroom... the SHOWER could have fit 5-6 people, apparently ;)).

The funny thing is that this is actually true

Well yes, all standing. And I wouldn't want too many in there (the floor is dodgy; i'm waiting on someone to come and rip it up and replace it :()

I think that kind of party would require its own seperate thread - Maybe he would get more yesses than the poker night ;)

Hrm. Poke-somethingelse? I'm leaving that one right alone ;)

OK doing rough numbers, and it looks like there's a lot more interest than I ever anticipated!

So far, I have a possible list of...

Code:
nlagalle
v8Statesman
markis10
munitalP
casanovawa
awilcockson
Lindsay Wilson
kpc
froggerADL
Alanslegal
StevePER (Unlikely)
jdlover23 (pre Feb 15)
haydensydney+1
DGW
david870mdg
reductionist
traceylee
Will
mikew
DTM1
anat0l

Excluding StevePER and jdlover23 from the list (based on it probably being after Feb 15th and distance involved for travel), I count 20 interested parties.

That equates to two tables (plus a dealer for each table, one being me, another being someone I need to find who will probably play anyway).

Will keep this updated as people join/leave the list.

Suggestions for a warm-up event are also in mind. Perhaps the 3rd December as munitalP suggested? Can we get a hands up for that one?

Could come on JQ35. TT have a price of $59.95 ATM (so will cost $53.96 with the price match....just the cost of 1 chip:D)

Interesting idea.

Shame I am not much of a poker player and most of my commuting travel is booked months in advance. Will keep an eye out on this thread.
