what specialist importers? so you would rather reinforce the Colesworth duopoly than support cheaper better independents, who are the price leaders that the former follows?

No, but in this case they don't look cheaper to me. I usually shop cashrewards, shop back, flybuys, etc, if an independent is cheaper or the same price then sure I'll go there but I'd usually be getting Roederer far under $80.

With it being a new release we may not see some discounting for a bit but for me Mitcham is far out of the way. The others I'd need to pay interstate shipping, international shipping or I haven't heard of before and are even more expensive.

of course the big boys will always beat the cheapest independents when there's 20% cashback, but until next Monday, The Wine Emporium will have the lowest single price of $73 - however if you're happy to buy 3, then from Emperor Champagne via Vivino, it'll be $70.20 delivered after 20% off with VIVINO20 and 5.6% Cashrewards :)
don't know where you are in Melbourne, but Wine Sellers Direct have outlets in Graythorn and Diamond Creek - they might be willing to price match TWE

Boozebud has CR cashback of 30% with a $30 cap, expires at 11.59pm tonight.
New users can stack it with "CASHREWARDS25" - Take $25 off when you spend over $150

Veuve Clicquot NV $74.99 and Laurent Perrier La Cuvee $75.99 + delivery $6.89 gives $157.87 less $55 = $102.87 for two bottles.
I doubt we'd see many discounts until say Black Friday, so it might not get much better than this.

Thoughts?

email update today:

N.B. From Tuesday September 28th, the price will be $74.99
Unfortunately our original statement that the price change will take effect on November 1 has been overruled by the importer. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

:( anyone want to report Red+White to the ACCC for resale price maintenance?

these would/should be on the bucket list of any serious champagne connoisseur, being rare single/twin-vineyard wines:
  • 2008 Bollinger Blanc de Noirs Vieilles Vignes Françaises - WA(WK)100, D(CC)99, V(AG)98 - $3499.99 @ Kent Street Cellars - 1 left

Jeez, yet another thread about something I'm partial to.

Champagne us a strange beast. I don't like Chardonnay. I generally avoid 'blanc de blanc' (ie Chardonnay) champagne. I definitely prefer Pinot Noir, as the 2nd most used grape in champagne.

For anyone who find the acidity in champagnes difficult to swallow, go for one with Pinot Meunier (sp?), the 3rd and least popular grape in champagnes. It offers a decidedly musty flavour in my experience, but works well in moderation.

After touring Champagne, I pooh-poohed Mercier because it is he most common champagne in French supermarkets. Recently I had occasion to try it, and i found it wonderful, especially for the price, typically one of the cheapest champagnes. I discovered that they do use Pinot Meunier in their standard blend. Perhaps there is a good reason that it's the most popular champagne in French supermarkets.

Champagne Bollinger, arguably the masters of Pinot Noir in the region, have released a limited edtion Blanc de Noirs from the 2013 vintage. There will be no Grande Année in 2013; instead the house has crafted "B13" from the cream of their vineyards in the Montagne de Reims.

30% off vouchers available until today?

MEL in-store: $71.90 @ Como Wines & Spirits

If you insist on buying solely Champagnes from RMs, then there are some serious ‘grower Champagnes’ that you will miss out on: Bereche, Pierre Paillard, Emmanuel Brochet, Jacques Lassaigne, Pierre Péters, Jerome Prevot, Savart, Vilmart and Vouette et Sorbée are all NMs now.
