Post #25, and the subsequent discussion about mods not being able to read every post. :!:
As I mentioned earlier I read every post on this site, including the AA forum. If I am away for a few days I still catch up on every post where possible just to keep up to date with what is happening in AFF world.

Not meaning to be rude but accepting a position of moderator on a forum, in my opinion, means that you should be reading at least 90% of posts on a regular basis.

That is silly and you wouldn't get many volunteers if that was a requirement.

It is your right to feel that way but for a board of this size 90% of posts is not that many. AFF averages between 120-150 posts per day.

I think you can get the volunteers required easily. Share the workload. If you have 3 moderators it wouldn't be too difficult to allocate the sub-forums between them. What is the point in having a moderator, even if they are the most knowledgeable person on the board, that logs in once every 2 weeks?

YMMV.

I wasn't suggesting that at all. However for someone to "have" to read 130+ posts a day on AFF in order to moderate isn't being fair, and isn't reasonable given the low level of moderation actually needed.

The tools are there for forum users to alert moderators to issues for a reason. I see no reason why they can't be used as such.

This board does not require pre-approval moderating of posts so there is no need for the moderators to read every post

If there is a particular issue that is wanting to be addressed, sending a PM or using the report post link will elicit a response in a timely manner regardless of whether an individual moderator logs in every 30 minutes or every 2 weeks

I agree with JohnK that you'd expect moderators to be covering most of the posts in a forum, or splitting it up so that they could provide good coverage. I also accept that AFF is well behaved enough that it might not be needed and that responsible members can bring items of concern to the mods and admin via "report post" and PM, etc.

Nonetheless, I started a new thread (this one) to raise my concern, it was posted in the Your Questions section, and it had a title that was quite likely to get the attention of admin and the moderators. It did, and I am happy that that advertisement is now banned.

The major reason I complained about the advertisement is because I like AFF and believe that it has high standards. As a responsible member, I'd like to help AFF maintain those standards, and felt that the advertisement in question was just not in keeping with the tone of the site.

Time to move on?
