To be Fair the media release also has expansion to daily from MEL-LHR and MEL-LAX,so the product is being shared around and providing consistancy ex MEL daily on 2 routes

It will also mean A380 services between Melbourne and London (via Singapore) will increase from six flights per week to daily and services between Melbourne and Los Angeles will increase from four flights per week to daily

Yes, and no more late evening MEL-HKG-LHR flight.

Perhaps CX were starting to steal a little too much market share for comfort on this route?

Qantas flying A380 SYD - HKG from 15th of January

So it seems that the rumour speculated on previously here are true as per the Red-e-Mail email that I'm sure many of you will have received:

"Fly Qantas A380 to Hong Kong on selected flights and enjoy non-stop relaxation

From 15 January 2012,* our award winning A380 will fly four times a week from Sydney direct to Hong Kong, a city that never sleeps."

Unfortunately the sale doesn't quite fit the dates that I was looking to book SYD to HKG next year but I will definitely be getting myself onto an A380 given half the chance :)

A real shame it cannot continue ops to LHR via HKG. A great stopover point + no other A380 operators from HKG, so surely there must be a market there?

I completely agree.

My parents fly regularly to the UK (at least once a year) and frequently flew through Hong Kong on the way - there is a certain connection for people from the UK to HK due to its' history I guess.

With Disneyland for the kids and plenty of shopping for SWMBO it's definitely been my choice and will continue to be for heading to the UK as we are planning to do next year. Just a shame we're going to have to do the rest of the journey on BA metal :-(

That's what Qantas are hoping you'll do as they'll get revenue from the codeshare without having to physically fly the sector.

Except in our case we won't be booking direct with Qantas for the BA leg. Either direct with BA along with a few intra-Europe flights or possibly with Cathay if they get their act together sale wise.

Speaking of which I still don't understand what the deal is with Cathay's web site and their sales... I've tried numerous dummy bookings for flights which they say are within the sale period and come up with ridiculous pricing in AUD like $11k per person Y for HKG - LHR return...

I seem not to be able to find QF/BA codeshares from HKG to LHR, is QF going to get those?

Actually, if you do stopover in HKG, I don't believe you can then continue on to LHR on the codeshare due to traffic restrictions. The codeshare is only available for transit passengers (i.e <24 hours in HKG).

You wouldn't be able to get a booking on the CX site in AUD for HKG-LHR.

This will be 11k HKD which converts to around $1375AUD.

Is it a surprise that Qantas is selling F on this route (on the A380)? I thought A380 F was only going to be on LAX and SIN routes.

$759 (+ out of this world c/card fee) to HKG is fantastic.

Oh decisions decisions should I book a trip in march. Great to see A380 QF extended to a new destination.

Currently stuck on FJ SYD-NAN, been sitting at gate on Tarmac for over 2 hours now, power issues.

Make that LAX/SIN/LHR routes.

These first 12 are the only ones currently scheduled to have First Class. I'd expect that once the 3 class 388's begin to come online, the HKG flights will lose F.

My mistake was that I was actually looking at flights SYD to HKG rather than HKG to LHR. I'm sure at one point I got a result of $11k specifically in AUD but that may have been for dates right at the furthest point of the booking cycle as I'm not able to replicate it for the same dates now.

The last QF flight number that is loaded in the GDS from HKG to LHR is on 24MAR, no codeshares on BA loaded at all

I don't believe CX offers First on that route, so if it proves popular QF might need to reconsider.

I loved that flight (obviously)!

Me too as you could get in a full day before leaving, otherwise you're stuck with a ~11am departure (ex-BNE at least). I also like transitting HKG rather than SIN or BKK (not that either of those are terrible).

just checked my bookings online, one of my flights in Jan is now on an A380...

first time on an A380 as im based in brisbane...very impressed.

what are the good J seats? im in 13A at the moment
