Have it on good authority that from DEC 1 QF 127 & QF128 will be operated by an A380

The schedule in the GDS show 744 till at least March 2012... Can always change offcourse.

Qantas 388's #11 is due to be delivered before the end of September and #12 before the end of the year. They have both flew for the first time in April and are currently listed as undergoing outfitting.

When was Nancy Bird due to rejoin the fleet?

That would be nice a JASA to HKG and then onto LHR etc in BA flat beds, maybe a new 1st seat but i doubt it. BA have some cheapish deals out of HKG till Dec. LHR return $4500 and i'm looking at a J - HKG-LHR-SYD for A$5500. might be nice if i had to go.

An A380 start would be my first 380 to, even better

Hmmm, just as I am looking at a return to HKG also.... Interesting indeed

I wondey why 127/128 and not 29/30?
I would hazard a guess that it is because the A380 base is considered to be SYD so they would offer that route firstly.

I suppose it's also because 29 goes onwards to LHR and 127/128 returns to SYD (requiring presumably only 1 a/c not 3!).

SYD has QF11/12/31/32, MEL has QF9/10/93/94 - wouldn't say one or the other is a 388 'base' as far as planned services go (although MEL has less currently).

Will that be a new A380 which wont have the F cabin ?
I believe the first 12 are to have First - this year planned deliveries brings the fleet number up to that.

2012 deliveries onwards will have no F.

Qantas needs at least 10 to operate each of those above services daily with another off line for maintenance/servicing. If the fleet is up to 12, a daily QF127/QF128 turnaround will keep another occupied.

Anyway..... Might have to hold of booking MEL-HKG return for a few days and see if anything else surfaces on SYD-HKG. Might grab 128 home via SYD if A380 is on the case.

Hmmm, have a FASA on QF30 6 Dec so will be interested to see what turns up. Would be pretty dirty if 128 gets it.

I don't suppose your source has even a rough idea if/when scheduled A380 services are set to commence in Brisbane? ... I much prefer them to a 744, so I often depart the country from MEL/SYD (despite living in Brisbane) just for the choice of aircraft. :)

I'd imagine from 2012 when they won't have F, as it's not good practice to sell F from a port that has a cubicle as an F lounge.

very good news if it comes through.

Re: BNE, i would hope sometime in 2012 we could see A380s doing the Qf15/16 route?

of course these 380s wont have F

no chance getting the 380s for the BNE-HKG (qf97/98) route i would think, we would be very lucky if that service still exists after next month!

You have to wonder about the BNE routes on QF.

Consider how many carriers serve SIN and yet QF only just upgraded to 744 (temporarily), that CX can do 2/day to HKG and QF can only manage 5/wk. Is LAX now daily or still 6/wk? There's a heap of pax flyig international ex-BNE (due to the population on the Gold Coast who dont want to fly JQi or AAX) but QF just cant seem to manage a decent schedule to anywhere.

Perhaps they don’t want to cannibalise JQi, but then, I think it’s only fair to give the people a choice and see which they choose.

But Sam,
1. it's (mostly) a different market.
2. The only JQi routes are ex-OOL (not BNE).
3. BNE pax wont travel to OOL to take international flights unless it's insanely cheap.
4. The JQi(OOL) routes are to Japan - i'll accept that, Japan airlines had to pull out of BNE because it wasnt making money.

Doesnt explain why they cant have twice daily to sin, or regular 744 to sin, or daily to LAX. The answer is they want to shunt everyone through SYD and pax from BNE, MEL etc are realising the other carriers are far less hassle, and usually cheaper to boot.
