Re: Nancy back in the air by End of April

Yes, once they have done the appropriate repairs and checks she should be as safe as any other A380 out there.

Re: Nancy back in the air by End of April

I'd take a complimentary ride in her, F of course whilst AJ serves me a diet coke.

Re: Nancy back in the air by End of April

Yes most likely this will be the most checked and tested A380 i the world.

Sorry, new cost cutting measures mean water is all that is available (and tap water at that)! ;)

So will she be in the new configuration?

Re: Nancy back in the air by End of April

Not a chance I will EVER fly on this aircraft again.

Sorry, but I won't risk it.

Does that mean you'll never book QF A380 flights in case you get NBW, and/or book it and be prepared to not fly when you board the aircraft and find out it's NBW? What if you book a 744 and it gets subbed by a 380 (that turns out to be NBW - agreed very unlikely)?

I believe bossreggie would simply get himself rebooked should an operating aircraft for a booking he had was to be operated by NBW.

Absolutely Serfty.

Qantas is already aware that I will NOT fly on this aircraft.

If all else failed and I got to the gate and realised tht NBW was to be my aircraft, I would simply not board and have my luggage removed and take the next available flight.

Re: Nancy back in the air by End of April

Wouldn't bother me however, I wasn't on the thing when all hell broke out......maybe if I was I would have a different view....I certainly wouldn't look down on anyone that took that view.

Re: Nancy back in the air by End of April

NBW revealed a few truths :-

1. RR is not necessarily to be trusted to supply bullet-proof engines
2. A380s are quite tough to bring down
3. Qantas has some of the best crew in the world

I would have absolutely no problem with using this particular "bird", just as I would any other Qantas aircraft. It's some other airlines you have to weigh up your risks on ...

1. RR is not necessarily to be trusted to supply bullet-proof engines

I'm guessing its not easy with the A380 to swap out the engines for the GP7270 instead.
GE engines tend to have a better safety record over RR.

You say that based upon what :?:

I am wondering if you've ever flown on VH-OJH, the 747-400 that was damaged in BKK mishap in the late-90s. If so do you see any difference between the two situations ? I am not being critical, but am just curious what it is about the repairs done to the A380 that you don't have confidence in.

Hi danielc.

I did NOT ever fly in that plane after the incident. I have a fear of flying. (which sounds bizarre given the amount of flying I do)

I'd never get on board an aircraft which I know had been involved in a major incident.

That may not seem rational... Neither is a fear of flying though.

History has shown that lightning can strike twice, while I believe any QF repair will often result in a better than new situation, the fact QF chose to retire their two repaired 747s early does lend support to the logic of "why risk it".
