A380 in Y - best seats (80A/80K/71D/50C etc.)

Flew QF9 yesterday in 80k. Legroom was good but the Chinese guy beside me was inconsiderate (mind you I am Asian too so I am not being racist).

He kept stretching his leg out over my area and pretty much I had to confine to my relatively small place. Gave him the look a few times but didn't work.

On the other hand, CSM was great and came over to have a chat. Offered wine etc but I am not a big drinker. He gave me newspaper and J headphone.

Thanks so much for the first-hand feedback. We've booked 80A/B to London so hopefully it will work out well sharing the good seat!

I really think you should take the 80A/80C route. Unless the plane is completely full, you're much more likely to end up with a spare seat than if you take 80A/80B

Was recently asked to select seats for a friend who is flying to the UK mid-next-year. Two flights on an A380 and I was surprised to find the return flight have 80A available, so I quickly selected it before someone else could. It’s good to know where the best seats are.

Now as he’s only a QP PS I’m just waiting for a P1 to come along and bump him out of it ;)

I would have easily fixed that person. My leg would be stretched out hard up against the seat in front closing in the person in the middle. Any attempt to cross over into my space would result in one warning and one warning only.

Take that any way you want but there is a reason people select these seats....

I would have plugged something (robust) into the power point at the rear lower right of 79J.

I flew SYD-LAX in 80A and can confirm its benefits... On the return leg I got bumped to 71A (must have been a Platinum who wanted it?)

They won't let a Platinum select that seat and bump you out of it.

It may possibly happen for a FFPO (WP1) or a FFCL though.

I think.

Does anyone know if a non-status pax can pay for advance seat selection and choose 80A/80K or 71D?

Or, are these seats now blocked for QFF status pax?

My boss is doing QF9/QF10 in July next year and I'm trying to help him get a decent seat in Y.

While I can't guarantee purchasing QP membership would give you the right (I was able to get 80A/K as QP PS), surely you could just fork out the money for the exit row and purchase one of those instead...?

As a Gold, 71D was available to me immediately, but 80A didn't open up to me until T-80

On my recent trip I was able to get 71D and an exit row (I was NB at the time). I didnt see 81a or k open at any time and they were empty through the flight.

Did you mean 81 or 80?

80

It was a pretty empty plane, most people had a free seat or row to them selves.

The cynic in me wants to say that the grounding was so that they wouldnt fly empty but that clearly doesnt make sense.

For our bookings MEL-SIN in a few weeks 80K was available for my sister from time of booking and she is 'Silver'

Inconsistency seems to be the message.

I don't think it's inconsistency. 71D does not appear to be blocked; however 80A/K do seem to be reserved for those with PS status and above.

After T-80 all bets may be off however. (I'd keep looking, especially at T-1Week, T-48 hours and anytime within 24 hours due to the possibility of someone being upgraded.)

I have 50ABC, 71D, 80K all available for selection for a flight I have booked in early June 2012. Now, 80K seems like it will take forever to get off the plane ...... is this how people felt when seated in 80A/K?

I think I might just stick with 50C but it says bassinet seat and I'm concerned I might get kicked out of that seat.

I'd go 80A/K over 50C and all three over 71D.

Just be resigned to waiting 10 minutes to get off the aircraft ex row 80.

(50C has it's own issues with the FA Social club often having mid-flight meetings in the First Galley, but at least you're off the aircraft rather quickly.)

I've never found the wait that long. I always find crossing over to the K side (if sitting in A) also means getting off a little bit quicker:!:

Interesting advice - thanks Serfty.

After taking ages to disembark from 80A, getting stuck at the back of a 2 hour immigration queue at LAX.... I was also considering 50C for my next one....

Maybe I'll stay in 80A afterall.
